Vibration

    Hi guys I just replaced the front brakes on my 71 skylark new front drums wheel cylinders shoes spring kits wheel bearings problem is has a vibration when brakes applied seems to be more on the passengers side the harder I brake the more the vibration is I can feel it in the steering wheel have adjusted 3 times thinking it might be grabbing to hard on one side but its still there any advice would help possibly an out or round drum?? Also I have a chance to get a front sway bar off an 80 turbo trans am guy says it should fit my skylark not sure of the size maybe an inch or inch and an eighth but its a lot bigger than my skylarks will this fit? Thanks

    Are you sure you have the shoes on right? Been awhile since I did my drum brakes, but there is a shorter shoe (primary) and longer shoe (secondary) The shorter shoe faces forward.

    Something else to consider. Did you clean the braking surface with some brake clean or anything like that before installing? Leaving that film on there will cause something like.

    Yes cleaned the drums braking surface really well

    Maybe try to re-bleed them. If that doesn't cure it, then I would look into having the drums turned. Maybe they aren't true from the get go. Are you seeing any heat checks on either the shoes or the drum surface?

    Before you stick it together it helps to check the arc of the shoe to drum. make sure no grease gets on them , Also TAKE all the edges pff the pad material of the shoe.

    I'm having the exact same issue on the right front. The brake gets tighter the more I drive it. I'll be working on it today, so I'll post what I find. You should get the sway bar, it's a noticeable improvement, Later Kirk.

    if you get tighter the more you drive then you have something backwards with your adjuster . like the right on the left.

    Thank you all for the info will take them apart again this weekend
    and have another look

    I t needs to be a high rider, big shoe in the back.
