I didn't see a vendor review section, so I thought it made most sense to put this in this section.

Just wanted to post a review for recent purchases I've made with Jegs on body parts/sheet metal. I did a lot of searching around for the best deals on body panels/sheet metal for my '71 Skylark. One conclusion I came to was that many places would advertise some pretty good prices, but then rape you on the freight shipping. Some (very few) places will bundle several things together with one order and only charge you once for freight (SCORE!) so the challenge was to find a place that had everything I needed with this policy. Jegs was the answer...they had the trunk floor, lower dash repair, door skin and fender repair sections, and rear quarter panels...all the big freight pieces I needed, and when you place a big order, they don't charge separate freight charges. Since I had a lot to order, I actually saved quite a bit of money ordering thru them.

I placed the order at the beginning of June, some pieces came in right away, and the others like the quarter panels were on a "1 month" unadvertised back order. No problem, I'm deployed and just want the parts shipped to my wife for when I get home in October. Well, after placing the order there was no communication from Jegs on when stuff was shipping out, or what all was left in the order, or updates on backordered items, kinda frustrating. After a month I called about the quarter panels, and was told yet another month on backorder! Geez man, glad I'm not in any kind of hurry.

Now lets skip forward to the freight shipping. Our street is a dead end and our driveway has no turn around and a tight radius turn to get into it, meaning no semi-trucks can make it down my street. When the shipping company calls, my wife tells them that to see if they have a van or smaller truck they can use to deliver it. Turns out no, they don't, they expect my wife to be 'on call' all day so that she can go meet them with my kids at some random shady place to hand over the parts. So rather than deal with all that she asks if her brother can just come pick them up at their warehouse with his truck, "sure no problem". A day or two goes by while my wife is trying to find someone to go pick up these parts with their truck and this company starts calling her threatening to charge storage fees and/or return to sender if they aren't picked up immediately. Wow, nice policy. When I called them and explained the situation their story changed and it was no problem to give us time to come pick up the pieces. In the end, they burned my wife out on ever helping me out with this kind of thing again because of the headaches they gave her, so that's not awesome.

Not sure if it'd be a different story with another vendor or not. While you save some money thru them, don't expect Jegs to communicate well with you, backordered items take longer than they say, and the freight shipping is annoying if they can't drive a semi truck directly to your house!

I haven't gotten a chance to see if these things made it unscathed/not dented yet. I hope to God they're straight at least!

Now onto the task of modifying hardtop quarter panels to a convertible!

Hi Jim! Do you have an app that notifies you when someone posts on a long-dead thread? Just curious. Or do you have to read them all and check the dates... :^)

Mike--we have no app for this. I will not say that I read them all, but I read most of them. What happened here happens a lot with respect to new members who get a lead to a V8Buick thread from, say, a Google search.
