I order 2 cases but now I am only getting 1 case. The funny thing is I bought it for $21 for a case, it is now at $23 a case.

Sure took them a long time to catch the mistake because it took a roller coaster ride as it rose and fell to $12.xx three different times. After each dip to the $12 range it was shown as "#1 selling oil" on Amazon. Only after the third time did they say it was a mistake. Anytime something spikes to #1 in a category you would think it would flag them to check it. I also wondered why its price was so volatile and rose and fell almost daily. I got plenty during the first two times it was offered at $12 so being reduced to only 1 6-pack on this third time isn't a big deal.

I now have so much oil that I'm going to do a complete oil change in my SS454 El Camino for the first time in over 10 years! Well that's not really true, it burns so much oil that it's like an ongoing oil change as I add oil often.

I don't know that this is the case here (and truthfully I don't think it is), but I had an interaction with amazon customer service recently that may or may not explain whats going on here.

So a few months ago I bought a pair of boots I had been eyeballing on my wishlist for over a year. The price had not moved, so I finally decided to bite the bullet and purchase them. 2 days after getting them, I was on amazon and they popped up as a suggestion based on recent purchases (duh....) and they were $30 cheaper. So I emailed amazon explaining I had just bought them and many retailers will honor the new price if something like this happens. They explained they did not do that as they routinely search for suppliers with the best prices on products, and adjust when they find someone with a cheaper price, thus causing sometimes sporadic and unexpected price changes. Why I say I don't think that is the case here is because I can't imagine any supplier selling this oil to them at a price low enough for amazon to make money (or just break even for that matter) when selling a case of this oil at $12 shipped.

As for the boot ordeal (and how it incidentally ties into this oil), I explained to them that since return shipping was free on this item (since clothing items can be tricky without being able to try them on), I would return these and reorder them at the lower price, thus causing amazon to lose more by not only having to pay my return shipping but also paying someone to handle the returned item once received, restock it, etc. The final agreement was they would not refund me, but issued me a $30 credit towards a future purchase (which I think I spent on this oil....haha).

...could be..."Amazon Services, Inc" is a retail front for people with something to sell who don't want to be their own (Amazon) retailer. Advantage for Amazon - for a product category, can pick lowest cost, equaling more sales with related advertising benefits like "Number 1." Advantage for seller - retail anonymity and all that means. For buyer it means we don't know what we're getting...could be new, liquidation goods, or knockoff. With no oversight, Caveat Emptor big time...

Lets take off our tinfoil hats a minute and look at it at face value fellas. Realistically, someone likely priced this wrong and it flew under the radar given that they sell hundreds of thousands of products every day. Then when an influx of higher than normal quantity orders came in, it eventually threw up a flag in some sale monitoring algorithm somewhere and the mistake was discovered, at which time they had to put a stop to it at some point. Is it really that hard to believe versus some big conspiracy theory? Sometimes you just get lucky and score something at a great price, whatever the reason may be. That's a fact.

Or somebody went through the trouble of getting identical valvoline packaging, sold it to amazon, and duped us all into buying "fake" oil. I'm guessing those sneaky Russians.... (<---*sarcasm* ) When my engine grenades and its determined it was due to this "faux" oil, I'll be sure to let you guys know. Hold your breath for me....

If you jumped on the deal and came out ahead, awesome. Sometimes ya get lucky. If you were late to the party and missed out, it was all a matter of unlucky timing, sorry for you. No one is "scamming" or "picking on" you. ;)

X2....I'd like that 50 times if it'd let me. I'm not going to be calling up Amazon b****ing because I feel I should get both my cases at the wrong price. I'm happy that they're going to honor their mistake for 1 case at a ridiculous price of $2/qt. Nobody owes anybody anything. They could've told me to shove it, canceled my order completely, and I would've accepted that answer. As much as we'd like to think of things like Amazon as a big electronic monster, it really is just another person on the other side of the computer. Mistakes happen. When someone makes one, I don't get p***ed and hold them to it. I take it as a screw up and move on.

EDIT: What's next? Are we going start calling out all those people on Craigslist that put $1 for the price of their car and holding them to it? Sue them for false advertising?

The present price of $23.99 is still a very good deal. That price is when I first jumped on the 'deal' and bought a few cases. When it dropped to $12 I bought more. Surprised the super deal lasted so long.
If you need it, spend the $24. You're not likely to do better elsewhere.

...respectfully disagree. Watched price fluctuate over a couple weeks. That's not a mistake...selling price was being managed, by humans or software. Perhaps cheap source(s) drying up, sending Amazon back to normal wholesalers. Anyone wanting in will have to monitor price for awhile to see if it goes back down.

When I was pricing a Baldwin door pull. Amazon seller had it for mid-20s. When I came back next day to buy, was $38. Since it was a want not a need, I sat on it for a couple months. Price dropped to $19.14 and I bought. Point here is Amazon and its sellers are monitoring our search/buying activity, and adjusting pricing.

My first order I got two cases. This second order I ordered 4 more but just like others I got the email that they will only sell me one case for the advertised price. I am fine with that and happy to have gotten what I have. It was a great deal and my opinion is it was a mistake someone entered and when they saw it they adjusted it and honored at least part of the order. Things like this do happen with big companies and I have seen & delt with it happening personally. Just be thankful to get anything you get for a great deal.

Anyone who ordered right before they found the error received any yet? I ordered three cases of each 1/24, got the email saying they’re only honoring the price on one case each, missed the first shipping date and now they won’t post an updated shipping date.

Received a email saying there is still a delivery date end of Feb to mid March. Dont remember the dates right now. But funny thing, i ordered 2 cases first. Then remembered i needed some for other items and ordered 2 more cases at the low prices 5 mins after my first order. With the limit of 1 per order it still says i have at least 2 cases at the low price still heading its way to me. Time will tell if it stays that way.

So if they drop it really low again, try and order multiple orders and then you should be able to get at least 1 case per order. Worst case you pay for and receive double of what you really needed?? Sell extras to friends and Board members at good prices.
