Man i know i am being stupid with all these questions but i dont know nailhead at all,i have a manual(red book) but it doesnt show my question,i noticed there are 2 hard vacuum lines coming out of the car on the pass. side going torwards the bellhousing,i noticed earlier when i was replacing my exhaust manifold gaskets that one of them isnt conected and its just dangling ontop of the bellhousing near the oil press. switch, the other looks to be going torwards the tranny wich i assume is going to the vacuum modulator, where does the other one go?its just hanging there but the other end is connected to the carb?they are both hard lines, any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

Does one of them have a cloth covering on it? I'm suspecting that the one that goes to the carb is the tube for the heated choke, it should attach to the exhaust manifold. There should be a stub of tube protruding from the exhaust manifold. Those lines usually had a cloth covering.

nope, that one is on the exhaust manifold, this line comes from the back of the carb just like the one for the modulator,

    Thanks

    George,

That is the automatic choke air feed pipe. It is attached to carburetor at the air horn, runs with the ST 300 modulator line through the clip at the back of the engine and goes to the back side of the exhaust manifold. A connecting tube runs through the manifold, and another tube is connected to the front of the manifold. The front tube is the covered one Dave wrote about and is connected to the choke housing. The external tubes are prone to rotting and falling away. Exhaust leaks can result if the tube running through the manifold rusts out. Always glad to give to the needy!

    Choke Feed Tube

    George,

The 66 Chassis Service Manual has a partial drawing of the choke feed tube in the ST 300 transmission section (Section 74, Page 36). It is a drawing of the vacuum modulator line for the Gran Sport Skylark, but the choke feed tube is identified and partially shown in the drawing. It shows the tube starting at the back of air horn with a hose, the hose hooking up to a tube and then the tube winding down to the bell housing with the modulator line. The drawing of the tube is broken at the bell housing as they were trying to show the modulator line. No manifolds or lower connections are shown in the drawing. I remembered how the line connected once I saw the partial drawing. I dont have a scanner and the drawing will not come out well on the digital camera. That is the best I can do for you.

    Cheryl :)
