Guys, I bought a nailhead here near seattle. I pulled the head and noticed one of the intake valves is heavily rusted. I need to drive back to Michigan on Tuesday. If anyone can help call me at 248 207 2409. Thanks.

Thanks, we called NAPA. It's not something they normally have in stock. Following other leads now.

You could de-rust the valve if need be.
If you have that going on already there are certainly other issues that are going to need to be addressing sometime down the road.

Ooooh... That doesn't sound good. Pardon me for stating the obvious. Rust on an intake valve. How did the rest of the piston and head look? Because of the domed piston, nailheads do not respond well to water in the cylinders; - invariably it'll cost a piston and then some if there's water getting in somehow. You might want to get that head magnafluxed for cracks.

You could get away with cleaning it up and doing a quick hand-lap on it, I did that to a very early tractor once with a similar issue and it ran great. Just ensure there are no pits in the face.

Hopefully it was just a lousy head gasket.

The valve must have been closed because on the combustion chamber side of things and the piston everything was clean.

Fortunately, we called people selling Buick parts on Craigslist and made a new friend who sold me a set of freshly rebuilt heads. The heads are back on and we are back in business.
