Nicholas, I guess I should pay more attention to the cars I have. The 70 you asked about is not brown. I looked at the data tag to get the build date and realized the color code was 58 not 68. So, it is harvest gold with a gold vinyl top and saddle bench interior (179). It is an early car 09C. Kansas plant.
Robert, The wildcat is just a parts car that we saved from the crusher. Did not need it or any parts, but could not stand to see a Buick crushed.
Bob, You may not need any parts off of it but I can think of at least a few people here who could, including me. :Brow: I'll be email-ing you soon. Thanks for the picture and for saving that one from extinction.:TU: I only wish that I had room like that to save all the wayward cars that I stumble across. :ball:
In my 20 yrs playing with GSs I've only come across two gold vinyl top cars. One was Harvest Gold and the other, I believe, Coronet.
hey bob. i am sadded by all of the basket case GS cars that you have showed to us. can you let me know what is happening to them. john
Nick, My factory gold top 70 GS 455 was an early build car manufactured the 2nd week of December 1969. Not sure how much further into the production year they went with the gold top? Mine is also Hearvest Gold exterior (code 58).
Evans I didn't realize that you had one! How long have you had it? One of the other two I was aware of was in GA too. Sold new in Athens in late 69. A friend of mine owned it and had it in storage on a lot in the country, from which it disappeared. He still has the title in the original owner's name.
Nick- this is my first GS and I've had it for over 5 years now. It was a Framingham, Mass built car and was sold new at Steffy Buick in Ephrata PA. A fellow off the BPC list said that this dealership is still right there with the owner's son having a few GS cars. I bought it from the 3rd owner who brought it down to SC from PA and knew the other owners. Didn't know or couldn't remember if you may have seen mine (if it was there?) the year you made it to the Reynolds GA meet. I have the build sheet and top code is H for gold. It was a well optioned car with it's list price over $5000 when sold new. I still need to get around to posting some pics and will do so one day. I'll dig around and see what I may have on CD of this car.
John, They are just sitting for now. I try to protect them from the elements the best I can. There is no way I could ever get to them all. It's a vicious cycle. You save as many strays as you can but then you are short on funds to fix any of them. I am planning to clean up this summer and will probably try to piece together as many projects as I can to find new homes. Then hopefully I will have enough funds to fix some of my projects that are closer to completion. That is if more strays don't show up and the cycle starts again.
I have a documented '70 Stage1 car built 02C with a 55-H cowl paint code (Coronet Gold w/ gold vinyl top). In 1970, 6317 of 8732 GS455 hardtops (model 4637) were factory issued vinyl top cars. 378 of these cars were vinyl top sales code 7. Does anyone know what vinyl top sales code 8 represents? 1 - white (1285 GS455) 2 - black (2414) 5 - dark brown (96) 7 - dark gold (378) 8 - ??? (1571) 9 - dark green (573)
bob, when you try to find homes for these strays please keep me in mind. i am planning to adopt a pathetic GS (350 or 455) car to restore in a year or year and a half from now. i am just looking for one with all of the sheet metal basically intact (especially quarters) and all of the basic pieces there (like a salvagable grill if not an intact one, GS hood...). i am in MA but a limited rust texas car sounds good to me. thanks john
