Me and a friend came up with some crazy idea.....well....now i can't stop thinking about it....i want to twin turbo my 401...i've done some research on home built twin turbo's, i found a 351 in a Capri, all home done, under $3K and the thing was running 10's!!! It's all a big dream...but maybe someday...i would probly have to have somone machine my pistons to get lower comp? or can you buy low-comp pistons...oh well...no matter, just a dream.

Not so crazy an idea. I know someone who is planning the same thing but with a 425 in a 64 Riv and we're in Australia! He's even built a model that shows what it will look like. Looks great and takes air from the high pressure spot in the vents below the windscreen. Nailhead heads are small when you're trying to suck air in through them but with a turbo forcing air into them it doesn't matter how small they are (the heads). Besides, you can't have enough wheelstanding Buicks in the world now can you?

I bought a program called turbofast that calculates exactly what turbos you need, power expectations, compressor maps.... for a given engine based on its dimentions. I'm interestined in this idea too, too much time planning a TT SBC for my budget autocrosser/dragstrip car. Can you feed me the numbers for the bore, stroke, chamber size, boost you want and redline for the 401 and if you can find it the same stuff for the 425 and I can spit out the stuff for you. Just going off of the displacement and a redline of 4800 with 8 psi with an intercooler you would need 2 Garrett T3 45 trim with an A/R of .63. Good news those are the turbos found on Ford Turbo I4s in Mustang SVOs and Turbo Birds. For the 425 you would need 50 trim wheels and the same A/R, not sure what used those stock but I would think that the GN might use something along those lines.

    Keep my posted,

check the may 1970 issue of HOT ROD mag. for article on buick's experimental engines. there was a 425 nail. with single turbo that almost made production.

CTX, I used to own a boattail Riv with a 700r tranny, how do you like yours? I too was considering a turbo/supercharger conversion to my '64 Riv (425 dual quad), I would like to stay on top of any turbocharging possibilities.

My motor went south and need a new one. I found one in Colorado and one in California but don't know who I could use to ship it here....cheap! I'm in Euless, where are you in 'central texas'?

    Howdy RivStg1,

Unfortunately I'm currently stationed in Colorado Springs, CO but I'm orginally from the Austin area. I love my 700R4, it gets me ~22 mpg on the highway cross country between Austin and C Springs. Where in CO is the nailhead? I'm considering trailering my spare 455 back to TX, if its on the Eastside of the mountians I might be willing to trailer both engines back for a fee in early June. Let me know what you think of that.
