Tunnel Ram to SPX

I have been running a sheet metal tunnel ram with twin Predators on my stroker 488ci BBB.
I'm thinking of going to a TA SPX and Dominator, simply to be able put a much lower hood scoop on the car.
(Even with twin Holley's it too tall)
    Any thoughts on performance differences?

Let me know if you want to sale the intake. but seeing how you are still iron heads I would imagine the car will pick up with a clean running Dominator and SPX, what's your combo, weight, etc etc?

Not sure what your engine combo is but my 464 with 11.6 compression, cnc ported stage 2 TE heads flowing 370/265 @ .600, sp2, and a ta308s turning 6500 rpms didn't like the 1180 sv1 prosystems carb I had on it. It was too big. Patrick said only by about 100 cfm.....but I was 10 jets front and rear smaller than what the carb was built with and I was still 300 degrees colder at the 1/8 mile as compared to the same short block and cam, iron stage 1 head flowing about 250/190, sp1 and 1000cfm prosystems 4150. Way fat. Sold the sv1 and went to a single 1050 dominator but haven't gotten to run it yet. I would think twin doms would be too much. I think something around 1100 to 1150 cfm would fit nice assuming your not twisting over 7000 rpm

i think with the right carbs the tunnel ram always wins. pair of small doms or 950s . plus it looks badass.

    Engine specs are:
488ci, 13:1 Comp, TA 508s, Iron heads have been worked real hard, all the good stuff internally, Nos Cheater System
Car weighs in at just over 3000lbs
Car has run 8.90 (1/4 mile) on 7000rpm limiter.
Changing gears to 3.7:1 to aiming for lower 8's.

Yes I would be interested in selling the Tunnel Ram with the Predators. (any offers?)

how much do you spray ? nice times . I have no real clue on performance difference but my un educated guess would be 30-50 hp on engine and not as much on the nos

    Cam specs?

I have had experience with 2 engine combos, both full tilt Alum head Stage 2's, where adding a tunnel ram and dual dominators was about 10-15 HP gain, on an 750- 800HP NA motor.

Both those engines required larger camshafts to utilize the extra airflow potential of the intake and carbs. After increasing duration approximately 10 degrees, both combos picked up an additional 35-40 HP. Luckily both motors were already at 14.5-1 compression already, so they could handle the bigger cam.

It all works together, so how much changing one part will make a difference is a factor of how well the combo is working now. Considering your weight and times, it likes the N20 to overcome the limitations of the cylinder head. It may also be masking a mismatch in intake/cam/headflow.

Most of us Buick racers would say "That's a lot of intake and carb for iron heads". And most of us have had iron heads as good, or possibly better than yours, before we went to the aftermarket aluminum heads. I personally have a set of 305cfm 67's that have made 700HP NA with a single 4 and put a 3500 lbs GS in the high 9's. I doubt we would have seen much gain with a dual dommy tunnel ram on that motor. But I will admit we never tried it, so there may be some gains, with matching camshaft and compression.

What does it run without the juice?

No Juice 9.7's , 150 shot gets it into the low 9's.
250 shot, hits the limiter at 1000ft and just gets into the 8's
My main question is, will changing from Tunnel Ram to the SPX really change much?
I really want to get the car looking more stock without the big hood scoop without hurting the times too much.

Anyone know how tall the spx manifold is?

1.75 taller than a stock manifold, if you decide to swap, pm me a price on the tunnel ram

It will be difficult for anyone to quantify exactly how much you will slow down, the most I have ever seen from a proper tunnel ram, dual quad setup is about 50 or so HP, vs a properly tuned single 4 setup.

Cam is certainly big enough for the Tunnel ram.

If anyone is interested I'm looking to sell the Manifold complete with the Predators, linkage and Intake Hat. Looking for something around $1750.
Nitrous plates and solenoids etc not included unless wanted and we can work something out.
Bolt pattern is same as Holley if you wanted to run twin Holley's.

Super cool! Your best bet is to start a for sale thread in the parts for sale section...
