Every 5 years and it is worth it. And keep in mind that you are not sent anything to let you know that you were accepted or rejected. You must use your password to at random log into the GOES website to see your status. There is no time frame. One day there will be a notification.
Strange that they wouldnt let the traveler know pass or fail. I got till the end of Sept to get the number. At what point do I pay the 85.00 per person and to whom?
Credit card online is how we did it for the renewal. And the price is $100 per person for TSA pre check and Global Entry combined. You want the latter if you leave the USA because it accelerates the process for re-entering the country. They post pass or fail on the GOES site. You have to keep checking the site by using your password until you see your results.
Just an update. As a result our application for another 5 years, we received an email suggesting to log in for a status check. We are now cleared to 2025.
So what is the differance if the plane leaves at the same time. If you arive 2 hrs early the lines are small. You check in your bags and go relax and have a coffe or whatever in the caffe. Unless you enjoy sitting in the bording area better. The handicap people board on first . Skip the lines to be first in line after the handicap. Seems like a waste of money. Better spent on your Buick.
The length of the regular lines can easily cause you to miss a flight, especially connections. You are relieved from extra searches such as removing your shoes and belt. The cost of a $100 fee spread over 5 years is not even tip change.
My wife has it and it’s worth every penny. I applied for Global Pre-check nearly 3 months ago and it’s still pending.
Global re entry lets you process returning to the USA from another country via an electronic kiosk that you operate. It reads your fingerprints, facial features and your passport. Compared to the Customs lines others must use at say, Kennedy, you save a ton of time that you can use to catch a connecting flight or a decent meal before you next leg.
Renewal took about a week. I assume that you are logging in to check your status. Once you get accepted, make sure that you put your pre check status in the profile for every Airline that you expect to fly. Otherwise, your tickets will not automatically show your pre- check status.
My wife and son have it. Every time I make a flight res with one of them I've been automatically included in TSAPre. I've not complained.
I log in every 2-3 days to check status. Apparently wait times have increased significantly in 2019. Up to 14 weeks.
We drove the hour and a half to Tallahassee Weds to do what ever they do. The address was at a staples store. We arrived 5 mins prior to the 11 am appt time. Lady at the kiosk said she had my wife's appt but not mine which I had made at the same time. No problem she'd do it anyway. Funny thing was all my wife's info I had entered on line was not pre-populated in the system and she had the appt and mine , no appt, was all there in the system. So it was basically check yes and no on a screen, get finger printed electronically and a photo. They slid our drivers licenses and pass ports into a reader. Lady doing the work said we'd receive a letter in the next 30 days with the number and instruction. Paid the 85.00 each and was on our way in under 30 mins.
Got our numbers issued today. I guess Im not much of a security threat. Now to get them entered into our reservations.
We don't have this available in NZ, would be nice to skip the extra scrutiny. Two years ago was @ Brisbane airport coming home with another couple, they sailed through customs as did the wife, beeper went off for me and big burly Aussie customs dude stepped in my path, behind us we could hear wife and friends making 'helpful' comments to the tune of you've had it now, as he was reaching for his gloves I looked him in the eye and said "Listen mate since 1966 it's been a funnel not a tunnel " he paused, returned my look, smiled and sent me on my way. I was fair puckering.
I did it. It's worth the time, but it doesn't mean you won't have to deal with the ineptitude of TSA.
I know. Several years ago we were catching a very early morning flight and as the wife and I entered the check point and handed the officer our boarding pass and ID's I was directed right into the express lane and she was pointed to the left for regular screening. I set my bag on the belt and walked through. Picked up the bag on the other side. Wife went through the whole process and ended up getting her tooth paste confiscated. I ended up having a small pocket knife attached to my key ring on board.
I need to get my pre check. Every time I fly out of Cedar Rapids Iowa airport there seems to be about 3 if any people in front of me. Would be worth it at the other airports though.
