Trying to tune carb with old gas.

This thought occurred to me the other day.
The gas in my GS has been sitting in the tank, in the garage, for two summers.
My AED carb that ran GREAT with my old combo, is now too rich, even the A/F meter pegs at a 10 at idle.
Am I spinning my wheels? Just curious if gas degradation (chemically) will affect A/F ratios.
I know physically old gas gets gooey, and varnish like.
All the while as I was getting closer to fire up with my new combo, Im going thru a mental check list, oil, battery charge, trans fluid check, fill radiator with water, BUT WHAT ABOUT THE TWO YEAR OLD GAS IN THE TANK MARK:rolleyes:
Ok, Im rambling here, but while I was typing this, I just remembered how great the engine ran for about 15/20 seconds on initial start...………….. I had filled the float bowls with fresh gas I use for the lawn mower!!!!!!
After that ran out and the pump sucked up the old gas, that's when it started running crappy:cool:
    LOL, answered my own post:):)

yeah you did and I did the same thing, I went out a couple years ago with old gas but it had over half tank, well we took a good drive and on the way back as it was now under half tank the car started to miss and run like crap when I started to push a little hard on the gas.

Had to keep the car moving quick without a lot of gas. Got home and just let it sit in drive and idle out most of the gas then filled it up and after the second one it ran good.

I am in the same boat right now since the car sat all of last year while I was trying to get the intake sorted out and this year it has the exhaust system leaking and not enough cash to work on it. I had to buy a truck to pull our heavy camper.

Most of the gas is gone now and I have some race gas to get started, just in time for winter, dang. Got the exhaust fixed somewhat so now I might be able to try, but now how convenient the tach don't work now.

What do you expect, everything is now 25 years old from my first redoing the entire car. really 30 oh boy

I did paint job, suspension, trans, rearend, and engine between 1988 and 1994. Paint job was 1st in 88, engine last in 94.

County next to me has some stations that sell high test without ethanol.

I haven't any issues with my gas going bad over winter, but after hearing all of the horror stories of E10 causing problems, the last three winters I've filled my tanks with ethanol free gas.

I haven't had any Issues over the winter either. I run the tank close to empty when winter is getting near, then fill up and add a healthy dose of Stabile 360. I use it all the time as cheap insurance. I also use the car in winter as long as the roads aren't full of salt. Top it off and more Stabile. Car never sits more than 2-3 months so I guess it's a bit over kill. I also been told Stabile Marine is better, but I stick with 360. It's a GS not an Electra!

Sounds like were in EXACTLY the same scenario:eek:
I have my exhaust off now, taking my H pipe out, going back to true duals, my pass. side pipe is too close to the drive shaft, and cant fit the muffler on (bought new Dynomax 17222's) tried pulling the pipe over, but the H pipe pulls the other side too.
I was gonna buy new pipes from TA, but they're out, and they don't know when they're having more made.
I called Summit Racing, no good there either:mad:
That's good to know about how the gas REALLY jacks everything up when it gets old, NEVER had this issue before, 'course car never sat this long either:(

There is a place close to me in Cuyahoga Falls south of you called Steve's Auto Service and the have a new machine and they can build a complete exhaust system. I was going to go there to have mine redone but the cash is too low right now. They can make the X pipe and everything. Might want to check it out.

    Thanks Guy!
When I look back, mid 80's, nothing was available for the 350 GS exhaust wise, had to go to an exhaust shop.
Mid 90's, I was all set, didn't need anything, but there were quite a few places selling exhausts for the GS Buicks.
Here it is 2018, I'd like intermediate pipes/head pipes, nothing available again:mad: Guess I missed the bus huh!
Well I'll do like Im used to since its a Buick, I'll work with what I have and cut the H pipe out and weld the hole closed for now

Cut the H pipe in the middle, use a sleeve pipe to clamp over it, then you will have some spacing adjustability.

Ahhh too late now, good idea tho:p
I cut the rest of the pipe off and welded the hole closed.
Mocking everything up, the intermediate pipe is waaaay too low to the inlet of the mufflers if you clamp the tailpipe to the factory hanger so the tailpipe is where its suppose to be.
I then remembered when my GS still had the original exhaust, the intermediate pipe kicked upwards to meet the muffler inlet to keep everything tucked up where its suppose to be,
This is a TA exhaust (just the pipes) I bought 100 years ago, but they have none in stock, and don't know when they're getting anymore made. Summit Racing has nothing.
    Welp, more cutting and welding:rolleyes:

    Yeah no kidding:confused:
At least I'll know my exhaust wont be a restriction, the 17222 mufflers are basically straight thru.
