I have an opportunity to purchase a true numbers matching 1965 GS, four speed, 401 (fresh rebuild) , 3.23 open rear, original everything, been painted the original red 25 years ago, garaged kept, nice interior (buckets), good chrome, lots of extras, very good quality driver.... only issues are some normal rot in the body mount areas, dryed up rubber body mounts, floor pans & trunk need attention, the frame has one questional spot (though I think it's very repairable) ....

I'm not sure if I want to take on a "project" but it seems almost too good to pass up... what do you think? What is a good price?

I like the 65's. I would be all over it. Without looking I can't offer a much of an estimate. But I passed on a 65 about 3 years ago that was an auto and very nice but it had a 455 in it instead of the orginal 401. It was $10K and it is the biggest car mistake I ever made by letting it get away.

thanks.. I'm going to go back for a second look. It's a bad time to be spending the cash but I know I won't find that again. Besides my kids need something to drive when they turn ........35....... I have never been a fan of the stock market.. but it seems like the value of the car would be more in the end...

You will not get as cheap as I got mine,,[$2] but Buick only made them for 6 months, in 65 , and that was a ''option'' of the Skylark.... so , not many of them around,,, the value in only going up.... rob a bank if you have to , but buy that puppy......  There is just 2 kinds of people, thems that has got a 65 Skylark GS, and them that wishes they did....

There has been a '65 GS 4 speed car on the Long Island Craigs List for the past few months. Light turquoise with a 425 and dual quads for $11k.
The most recent ad just expired yesterday.
    Are you interested?

425 is not the correct motor.

Neither is the dual quads for that matter.....the only carb from the factory that I have ever seen is the carter afb.....

John, your truck doesn't have the original motor in it either!:bla:

Just giving the original poster another car to look at.....
Some people want number-matching, some people would rather have the extra cubes and dual quads!!

There was a red 4 speed car that sold on eBay recently from the NYC area. Looked super-nice. Price was in the upper teens I believe??

We aint saying that is bad,,, but if it is a 425 DQ engine, it cant possibly be ''numbers matching'' .... my car aint numbers matching any more,, but I got the numbers matching engine sitting in my shop :Brow: :Brow:

    I couldn't agree more Doc. :TU:

Someday, I would like be known as the Walt, or Jimmy Shiels of 65 GS's with at least one of each body style.

I actually took mine to work Saturday, even though I knew it would get covered with limestone dust.

You know ,,,, as a man ages and looks back on life, it is enevitible that he will have some triumphs and some regrets... that cant be avoided,,,, but I had a nice little 64 skylark hard top coupe....and the next year , Buick came out with the 65 skylark GS.... same basic body...I wanted one so bad I could taste it....
but.... I had just , a year before, bought a car...could not afford to buy another... sooooo, being the USDA certified Cajun that I am,, I set out to get my 64 to as close as possible to a 65 GS as I could....I found a wrecked GS in a bone yard and bought all the stuff off of it , a few pieces at a time, untill I did , in deed have a 64 skylark GS...I did my homework and researched the differences and changed out everything but the frame... that was too much trouble... that was my triumph.... the regret was that 15 years later I sold it....I never tried to pass it off as a 65 GS car, that would be dishonest,,, I just let it be a ''Mystery car''.... I could drive it into a dealership and people that worked would come around it and look and scratch their heads and talk about it among theirselves... and I would chuckle....
The guy that classes the cars at the strip couldnt figure it out either.... finally put me in D/gas.....but I have always wished that I had not put the BBB in it and had not sold it....I wished that I had kept it and gone back to a 425 nailhead engine/trans........

I actually just had one passed down to me ('65/3 spd/401/Conv)...with every maintenance receipt and every part that was ever removed from it in the trunk still. My dad bought it new when he got out of the service.

    158k on the ticker.

Is it worth me keeping it completely original or are some things "safe" to upgrade. EVERYTHING is original (including that awful rope/asbestos whatever it is rear main seal). But it is by no means mint.

They are very rare and very cool and probably way under valued if they have original equipment. Just the way it is.

Keep it original IMHO ! Check out how many 3-spd verts were produced ? Extremely rare !! somewhere in the hundreds if I recall correctly but way lower now !!
