OK Guys I need some help, I am checking something out and need some info. I want to know if anyone has a letter code behind their trim code number, some do and some don't. The 65-67 guys will find them on the ID plate on the firewall, or on the protect-o-plates. The guys with the Body Shop Inspection sheets should find them listed there. The codes should look something like this, "163 A" What I need from you guys is the year car, trim number, and the letter behind it. Thanks. Duane
Hummmm I have a parts cat that shows 68: A bench with cloth or cloth coated fabric B bench with coated fabric C bucket seats D notchback seat Skips 69 uzzled: Shows 70 as either: notchback or bucket (not using any letters). In 71: A regular bench, coated fabric B regular bench, cloth & coated fabric C notchback seat, all coated fabric D bucket, all coated fabric In 72: A bench B notchback bench C bucket Prior to 68, it doesn't really show anything. o No: Hope it helps. :TU:
Duane I did not mean to imply the "ABCD"'s were options available for the customer to decide. They weren't, only were giving a bit more detail to what the specific 3 digit # code was. I do not believe the Fischer guys were supposed to place the letter on their plates. It wouldn't hurt, just not needed. Sorta like on the P-O-P's, the GS's did NOT have the #3 stamped (for dual exhaust, I assume because it was standard), yet Marco & I have seen a few GS plates with the 3. uzzled: Oh, I did find a short section on 69's, and it was listed the same as the 70's.
Dan, I appreciate the info but the codes you have listed do not correspond to the ones on the Buick trim plates or build sheet info. I am finding that some assembly plants used the seat code letter, while others didn't. This post is geared to the 65-67 guys. Some of them will have the seat codes on the ID plate, buildsheet, and possibly the Protect-O-Plate. I don't have much info for these cars, but have enough to get a good handle on what the seat codes are for those years. However, I would like to get more info so I can fill in the gaps. I am looking for standard as well as deluxe interior combinations, so if someone has a skylark/special, that will also help. Duane
Trim Code on my 67 Skylark Hardtop coupe was 168-C. I have the entire selling manual for 67 if you think that would help any. o No:
I have '193 B' on my 67 GS400 Automatic which has buckets and an operating console. It is on the trim plate and this peice of paper I found under the driver's seat. I always thought the 'B' was for Buckets??? o No: Hope this helps.
'67 GS 400 Tag Here's the tag on my '67 GS 400 convertible, It has a power bench seat without a fold-down armrest. has code 184-A By the way, not to high-jack your thread but I really want to know what the "K" means in the 5th group. I've asked before and no one seemed to know. If anyone knows the answer now, please email me: BUQUICK@comcast.net E= all tinted glass X= Power windows F= Power seat 4-way Z= 400 THM F= remote mirroe C= Ext belt reveal (molding) K= ????????????? o No: Y= Deluxe Seat belts
Duane, All my '66's have numeric interior codes on the cowl data plate....no letter suffix. Same for the protecto-plates. The Fisher build sheets do use a three number, and one letter code for the interior trim. As in 198-B. Maybe that''s where the extra letter comes from.... BTW, all have bucket seats, except the Special. I do see a few 'abnormalities': I have one protecto plate with a three letter paint code....WWR.....dunno what the 'R' means, maybe pinstripe color? It's WW on the cowl plate. Another car shows TT for paint code on the protecto plate, but T2 on the cowl plate.....car does have a vinyl top. One engine block is stamped MTR (should be MR), with the 'T' having some 'dents in it. Production code, and serial number match the Protecto-plate. I haven't determined whether these cars were built on Mondays... One last thing....my two Fremont built cars use numeric option codes on the cowl plate. The Baltimore built cars use letter codes. I'll get some cowl plate pictures together, and e-mail them to you.
Guys, Thanks and keep the codes coming. Special Wagon 65, I am looking for Skylark/GS codes for now, but thanks. Gary, I know what the Fisher Option Code "5K" means. What do I get if I tell ya? Possibly some more detail pictures of your 72 survivor car? (I can't bitch about the "high-jacking", seems I do it all the time myself.) Walt, All the codes for your 66's will be helpful. As far as, "I have one protecto plate with a three letter paint code....WWR.....dunno what the 'R' means, maybe pinstripe color?" That is exactly what it is. "Another car shows TT for paint code on the protecto plate, but T2 on the cowl plate.....car does have a vinyl top." I have seen many cars with errors on the protect-o-plates. I always believe the cowl tags over the P-O-P's. "One engine block is stamped MTR (should be MR), with the 'T' having some 'dents in it. Production code, and serial number match the Protecto-plate." My 66 GS motor (Baltimore car) was also stamped wrong, but matched the vin #. The numbers were all stamped upside down, seems someone did not get the memo. "One last thing....my two Fremont built cars use numeric option codes on the cowl plate. The Baltimore built cars use letter codes." You noticed that too, seems the fremont cars used something called "batch codes", while the other plants used Fisher Option Codes. Someday I may figure them out too. Hope this helps. Duane PS. Walt, did you ever get your assembly manual. If not let me know.
Duane Have gone back thru all my paper work on my 65 GS conv. The "car invoice", from Flint-buick to the dealer here in Pa. has the interior code of 154. The protecto plate is punched as 154 Y. The fire wall tag / fisher body tag is stamped TR 154. The tag I found under the rear seat listing the job # is listed as 154. After going thru the " 65 BUICK COLOR-TRIM book, I could find no mention of a 'letter' code after the 3 digit color code. Me thinks that the dealer made a boo boo on the protecto plate? Mine is a Flint car, built the 2nd wk of Feb. 65, some time between Wed. and the week end, according to some of the date coded parts. The invoice lists shipping date as 2-18-65. As of the end of this month, I've had it "35 YEARS". Hope this adds a little more info on the early GS. Al PS: the 65 is the ONLY GS with "PORT HOLES"!!
Al, Yeah, I figure the Protect-O-Plate is also wrong, but will keep the code in the system as a possibility. I see so many mistakes on the P-O-P's that it's not funny. In the later years, 70-72, many of the big block engine codes were never changed from the base 455 code, so they don't list the engines as Stage 1's, seems they didn't feel it was important for warranty work. Anyway, is there anything special about the white buckets, like optional headrests or something? Duane PS. The Protect-O-Plates were stamped at the production plants, and shipped to the dealers loose inside the glove box. Then the dealerships put the owners info at the top (with plastic tape.) when the car was sold. At least that is how it was done in the later years.
Well I did another search and finally found my answer. Duane it came from you in a previous thread here , looks like the "K" simply means door edge gaurds? I absolutely HATE door edge gaurds. They totally disrupt the lines of a car! A car's lines flow front to rear and a door edge gaurd is vertical and shiney yuck! I was hoping the "K" was something a little more exciting.. oh well. I promise not to high-jack this thread anymore.
