I have a 72 Skylark 350 with a 200r4 trans. I purchased a new rear trans mount from NAPA for a 72 Skylark but it doesn't fit. First if all it is too tall; it lifts the trans up until it almost touches the floor pan and does not leave enough room to install the drive shaft, secondly it has two bolt holes to mount to the cross member instead of one hole that is required for my cross member. What is the proper mount to use and where can I get it? Thanks

Get trans mount for 84-88 montecarlo SS with 2004r trans.(The GN/TR mount is offset, as is the crossmember) Generic available any parts store; polyurethane from summit, jegs, etc (prothane or energy suspension)Remember that the mount bolts for the 2004r are metric. You may need to fab some shim spacer,

No Spacer should be needed mine was a direct bolt in. As steve stated before you will need to get some grade 8 metric bolts for the mount. Good luck!

Is a turbo 350 mount different than a ST-300 mount? I used my stock mount with my 200r4 swap. Just had to buy 2 metric bolts........:Do No:

I was under the impression that a TH350 mount would work, but it sure doesn't on mine. Besides being too thick the mount NAPA supplied for a 72 Skylark had 2 mounting holes to bolt it to the cross member but my cross member has one sloted hole. I assume the cross member mounts on top of the lower frame edge not under it, right.

I got the Monte Carlo trans mount however I still have a clearance problem (trans is so close to floor that u-joint hits the floor). The cross member doesn't look to be bent; no indication that it would have hit anything hard enough to bend it either and it is the correct, most likely original, dual exhaust cross member. How can I check to see if it is staight? Any other ideas on what is causing the interferance problem and how to correct it?

I was basing the recommendation on the info you supplied about the one slot cross member, with regards to using monte carlo mount. Did you have clearance issues with the old 350 trans? Skylark cross member SHOULD have had 2 slots for the 350 mount. Check the ends of your "one slot" cross member; it should have rubber isolators (and frame mount brackets)for BUICK application. Other GM "A" bodies may have used "solid mounted to the frame" cross member. If the cross member is out, look for part number, usually to right off mounting slot(s).

When I got the car it had the 200r4 installed onto the engine but it was just sitting on the cross member with no mounting pad. The cross member does have a single slot and does not have rubber isolators, nor do I have frame mount brackets. Therefore I'm quessing that it's not the correct one??? Unless Canadian cars were different??

After some more research, I definately have the wrong cross member. Other than the 68 to 72 Skylark are there any other cross members that fit? Also are cross members different for dual exhaust?

Back then, so many cars had single and dual exhaust options from factory, most came with crossmembers set up for true dual exhaust. Don't know about other make compatability, but convertible cross members are different from coupe because frame is different (boxed). I guess you have a chevy cross member(they were solid mounted on later A & G bodies with 305 and 350 chevy engines; Buick engines had rubber isolators. I have one from a 71 4 door skylark, if need, but tariffs and shipping would be outrageous across the border. Try fellow canadians, list under parts wanted section. Good luck!

Thanks Steve, I just bought a 1970 4dr ht 350 2 bll parts car so hopefully the cross member is good in it. It is sitting in the weeds, no front tires & no rear axle so I couldn't look under it, but figured I couldn't go wrong for a 100 bucks.

Hey, you'd get more than that at the car crusher for scrap metal down here! and were talking US dollars, not Canadian dollars. Sounds like a good investment! Lotsa parts interchange: front clip forward parts all same, trunk lid, front handles/lock mechanisms, dash, column, pedals.

Give the guys @ Boetie overdrive a call they have a lot of info.I have a 72 chevy Sb PU that I converted to a 700 and they were very helpful. I will probably use them for my 69 GS. There number is 760-947-5240 or look them up on the web.

Yea, I think I'd get more than that for scrap here too, And the whole front clip including the bumper are better than what I have. The best part is that it is located only 3 miles from where I live. Just have to figure out how to get it home without a rear axle.

Getting a tow truck will probably cost more than the car!! But it's definately the easiest. I might try a dolly.
