Hmm, how does it work with the Dynaflow flexplate? The Dynaflow flexplate doesn't have any teeth for the starter, it's just a small triangle.

Will do Devon. What's a good thread with a hijack  .

I pulled a ST-400 from a 65 riv for my 63 riv. I was told I need a crank flange adapter for the 65 flex plate. I also noticed the solinoid in the link that DA Nailhead posted .Is this located under the hood or it the trans? I pulled the carb linkage and the wiring harness but didn't see that solinoid.Any help would be thanked. I plan on getting back on this car as soon as I get back from deployment from Afganastan in December.:beer Rocky(Sfc William R Rock)

Rocky, thanks so much for your service to the country,,, may God watch over you and keep you safe.....
The actuating solenoid is inside the trans,,, look on the left side of the trans,,, just above the pan , there is a plastic electric terminal with 2 tabs sticking out of it...one horizontal and one vertical.... that is the terminal for the switch pitch.... actually for the passing gear and the switch pitch....
The wires from the factory are in a molded plug and you cant mix them up.... they are black and white and go up to the carb switch.... just bolt the bracket and the kickdown switch onto the left side of the intake manifold, run the wire down to the terminal, plug it in and you are good to go... I bolted a 66 switch pitch behind a 1959 401 using the 66 flex plate by having a machine shop open up the center hole to the spec of the 59 crank,,, that is all I did ,,,, and raced it for several years and never had a problem.... did have to shorten the drive shaft and take the rubber out of it at the bottom end because it was for a 300/2 speed.... and would not hold up to the increased torque....and move the cross member back 5 or so inches and use the stock th 400 rear mount....but you can definitly make this swap work and it will be soooooo good.....

And,,,, you will need to go to the later starter, [short nose] because the long nose starter for the flo wont go into the th 400 bell housing....
