Hi there! Unfortunately I've been told my 72 Riv won't pass its next safety inspection due to corrosion on the rear trailing arms (lower I think) (only just bought her. I'm going to get the underside protected once I've replaced them). Does anyone know where I can get replacements.. Either new, recon or NOS. Maybe one of you might even have some knocking about somewhere This beauty is my daily driver so I don't want her off the road! Hard to find parts for them here in the UK.. Thanks! ---------------- UK 72 Riv owner. (double black with vinyl roof)
So what do you need ? Upper, lower or all four of them ? PS: Please put your name in your signature, we're all here on a friendly first name base :TU:
That's a bit weird! Sig altered (put a li'l pic in there too) The mechanic said just the lower but it might be worth getting the lot if they're in better condition than mine I imagine.
Okay Paul :beers2: I already mailed Rick to ask about the trailing arms. Mail me your e-address at erikboattailmeetingphotos@gmail.com And also mail me some photos of the Boattail, I've been waiting since your post from last August to see it....
They look ok I could take them off and blast them and put some paint on them so they look new when you get them. Unless you wanted to do that yourself. As they are $30 plus shipping. Bead Blasted and painted black $100 plus shipping
Hi there! If you could do them blasted and painted for me that would be great. The shipping costs might be a bit prohibitive though with them being quite heavy. How much do you think it would cost to get them sent to me here in the UK from there?
The least costly way to ship smaller things like the arms would be the USPS. Since the arms need to be replaced, you should consider a factory rear anti sway bar, which would improve the cornering ability. GS Riviera cars had the rear bar from '72 up. Most '73up Pontiac Grandvilles and Chevy Caprice models came with the rear bar( F41 Handling ). These will fit the '72 Riv. I just removed the rear arms and bar from a '74 grandville to install on my '71 Olds 88 Royale ragtop. BTW, I sent a pair of heavy aluminum brake drums through the USPs at a cost of $70. Weight was over 50lbs.
Wow.. That sounds pretty serious (I'm an IT person, not a mechanic but I intend to start some classes to learn how to take care of the car myself soon). Is that a big job, do you think a local garage would be able to do it?
In order to get these replacement arms boxed Mike says he needs some info on where the holes would be for the sway bars (there are no holes on the arms he has (I imagine only the GSs had them if they came with the rear sway bars fitted)). Does anyone have any info on whereabouts the holes would be? Thanks again!
The Riviera control arms are not boxed, like on the early 70's Skylarks, The sway bar has a U channel section bolted to the bar that slips up inside the arms. Each side has 4 threaded holes that line up with holes in the arms.
