Has anyone bought this Tach from TPP, would like to know how to install no installation instructions included I emailed them they said sorry no instructions :rant: this looks very close to original has metal housing. I figured + goes to 12V , S goes to coil, do i ground like original ? I have a HEI distributor I would like to test it before taking my dash apart. Any and all input is appreciated !

You have to remember, I removed the tach glass and the silver bezel. Had to trim, (with scissors), the plastic tach housing to fit this neatly into the original clock delete plate. You want the tach to fit flush inside the delete plate so the original plastic face doesn't protrude any. It's not real hard to do, just take your time. It needs to be connected to a ground. Maybe try Year One for connection info. They sell the same tach.

Is the center button of the needle black instead of silver? + is probably 12v and S is orobably for "signal". A ground to the case would probably complete the circuit.
yes that's what I think too I will test on the engine bay , will use a clamp for ground, 12V to battery and S to coil. the center button of the needle is chrome. I also emailed Year One but they did not have one to check for me.
Anybody use one of these with an msd box? I'm about to wire mine up, and am wondering it there's any difference running the wire to the - coil versus the tach input on a 6al box. Also, anybody know for sure which wires which? I assume the lower right is ground, but don't know which is a switched 12v and which is signal. Mine doesn't look like the first pic, it looks like this Edit: never mind, looked at the other thread and figured it out
Thanks for reaffirming Larry. I was planing on taking it to the box. Looks like i may have to order an msd adapter from summit.
I wouldn't do that before trying it from the box only. I have powered my stock tach and Autometer tach directly from the box with no adapter.
Ok, I'll give it a shot. I was actually gonna wire up a spare cheapy tach I've got laying around to see if it'd smoke it or not before doing the one already in the dash....haha
As long as you hook it to the tach output on the MSD box, you won't hurt the tach. It will either work, or not:grin:
I'm running a factory dash and hood tach off the MSD tach output and it is fine. The neg side of the coil with with MSD is just asking to let the smoke out of your expensive new tach. Besides if you are getting multiple strikes at low RPM you,would have no idea what RPM you were actually turning until you hit about 3K. One other thing if you are gonna use the crimp connectors at least put a dab of silicone/die-electric grease on the spades/loops to help preserve the connections.
Well just about finish with the whole dash makeover. as far as the tach I got from the TPP , everything worked out well. the original light sockets fit perfect. plus upgraded to leds Here are some pics. before and after.
