Oh wait their just 30 years old!!!! Ok I like the 60's cars, but lets face it I was raise building computers and looking at F-16s. I'm a 17 years old would was never used to the output or lack there of 60's cars until I fell into a 69 Skylark with about 800 bucks flying out of my pocket. I love my car... until the sun goes down. Are there any really good and bright, (the soft blue styles work good here, you know for the people comeing at you) head lights and some bright high beams? and has anyone tried to put running lights onto one of these style cars? like the ones you see at auto zone all the time? thanks for your help

  2. Ummm, welcome to the V8Buick board, Thomas! You'll find a great bunch of Buick nuts here, willing to help in any way they can... I can't give you much direction for your headlight problems, but I'm sure someone else will send some words of wisdom your way in that regard. As for what you call "running lights", I don't think you'll find anyone here in the habit of stringing lights up around their GS or Skylark, in places they were never meant to be. Then again, you just never know, the world is FULL of "wiiiiiilllld and crraaaaazy guys", as Steve Martin would say.

I do know you can find replacements for the headlites to change to the little halogen bulbs (expensive though).

As for running lights on these style cars - I think people did that a lot in the 70s and early 80s, so I'd imagine someone here should have advice if you really want to do it.

Hey Truzi how much are we talk here?

    Thanks all.

I don't think running lights would look bad on these old cars. Well some would. But some sets are never nice looking and would seem to fit the styleing of the Sky. Besides I have 2 empty bolt holes in my bumper about 1/4 and 3/4 the way across? What are they for? anyone know?

    Dim or No Headlights?

If the lights are just dim but functional, switch to an internally regulated alternator. Clean the ground wires, and connections here and there.. Every lil bit helps.. No headlights, yer on yer own there bub...

The holes tho I'm guessing would be bumper mounting bolt holes.. I'm guessing someone took it off and forgot how to reassemble? Wouldn't be impossible, as someone forgot to put my trans mounting bolts back in.. :eek2: :blast:

    my change for the night...

p.s. Dave, I doubt he gets the Steve Martin and Dan Ackroyd skit, to young.. So close, yet so far... :spank:

I thought it was more expensive than these (I'm sure there is more than one manufacturor)... but check out this website for converting the sealed beam to a halogen bulb:
    http://www.demandmotorsports.com/MM071.ASP?pageno=39
You can buy actual halogens replacements for sealed beams too. I think it would be cheaper up front, but more expensive after you have to replace a couple of them.

As far as the running lights go, I wouldn't do it myself, but thats my opinion. Do what makes you happy. However, you might take a look at this thread if you haven't yet:

(Ah, the original Not Ready for Prime Time Players - I think my favorite vignettes were Land Shark and the Killer Bees. Then there was the night they were attacked by the giant lobsters...)

What kind of update? Like a product review type thing?

Just on how the conversion went, what your thoughts are on the new sylvania stuff, ease of installation, worth the cost and time, etc..

I've replaced all the lights on mine 'cept the headlights and I'm wondering what the conversion is like.

    Thanks

    Ok

    Sure no problem.

What all lights have you replaced?

BTW can you get new covers for the brake lights, turn signals, ect. because all of mine are cracked, not broken threw or anythings, it just looks crappy and I would like to get them replace. PS new ones please. thanks.

Thanks.. Looking forward to that update. :)

The lights I've replaced have just been bulbs, from exterior (tail, side, etc) to interior (courtesy, glove, etc).. As for light lenses, thats probably not gonna be easy... I'd say make a post in the Parts Wanted area and start hunting thru eBay..

If the lenses are in good shape but look dingy, you might be surprised how well they can look if you take them off and wash them in hot water and Dawn detergent. Then buy some McGuire's plastic polish and spend the evening in front of the TV polising the outside of the plastic. Mine came out looking like new (sure made the chrome on the bezels look old when I was done though). Cleaning the reflectors behind the lenses may brighten things up a bit too.

i'm intrigued. are one of these a fairly stock-appearing replacement for 70-72 lights?

#LG/CK-701 for $20 looks pretty stock looking from the photo I think. Or maybe I haven't checked out enough headlights lately.. (no not those headlights. :gt: )

i havn't examined my headlights lately, either. (that sound even worse)

if these mount in like the old ones and work properly i can't see why not to switch (would two h1 lights and two h4 lights switch between hi and low beams like they should?).

of course seeing clear lense instead of murky yellow will look kind of weird.:Dou:

I agree, the #LG/CK-701 does look fairly stock. I'd love to get some but have more pressing financial needs at the moment. Otherwise I'd let you all know b/c I think I'll be going that route (will start with the outboards first).

Improved lighting is only one advantage. It would be worth the price if all it did was make bulb replacement easier.:)

I don't care about a completely stock look, but the clear lens/diamond reflector doesn't seem like it'd look right on our cars. Perhaps we need better pictures.

The only headlights I get to see are walking down Ventura while I'm driving.. :ball:

Anyhow, on a manly car topic :beer , the Sylvania lights that Kaz found I think are an even better choice then the demandmotorsports lights. Specially since they offer a Xenarc conversion for us.. (least it's listed for my '71)..

Head here to findout what they offer for ya: http://www.sylvania.com/auto/carapp/

    Cheers...
