On my 1969 GS 400, the trunk moulding and two rear quarter panel mouldings acrss the back . Does it get black painted stripe in the middle of it ? I have seen it both ways.

Question ? I have seen a pinstripe that follows the body line and also on the trunk lid . Did the factory pin stripe continue on the Trunk ?

    Tony,

The stripe dimensions are in the assembly manual.

Here is a picture of mine.

......and if you had a really early car the stripes went over the rear wheel wells like mine. These pics were taken at the 2019 GSCA Nats.

Dave and Duane, thank you for the great pictures and explanation. Have you seen any other pinstripe color on a 69 other than White or Black ?

    Tony,

The only colors available were White, Black or Red and it depended on the body color as to what color stripe was painted.

Black was used on the Yellow, Lime Met, Champagne Met, Medium Gold Met and Silver Met. White was used on all other colors and Red was only used on the Polar White which is the color of the stripes on my car which is a Signal Red (Code 52).

As Duane mentioned above about the early build over the wheel well, drawing was revised 9/20/68 so I would assume anything after that date would NOT be above the wheel opening.

If you are thinking about adding these, they really need to be painted on as nobody makes the correct thickness/gap vinyl stripping. Originals were 3/32" stripe, 5/32" gap, 3/32" stripe, I checked everywhere and could only find 1/16, 1/8, 1/16 before getting mine hand painted. I also believe if you plan to get the car judged at some point, there is a deduction for vinyl stripes.

As Dave mentioned above, the manual is quite detailed on color codes, where and how they are applied with taper dimensions.

Here are 2 pics of Terry's car at MCACN so you can see the stripes.
