To back half or not to back half

I am in the process of planning and designing a BBB project for a 70-2 car. I have done a fair amount of investigation on chassis and suspension design and almost everything I read says that If I want to go low 10s or better that I should back half the car. HOWEVER, looking at many cars with similar performance, I only see a shortened axle for a 10 or 12 inch tire, a 4 link or ladder, frame rails and some cross members. The only time Im really seeing people go to back half or full chassis mod is when their creeping into the low 9s and better.
I plan to have the car running 700+hp na and more with the spray. Which by higher math on my drive train combo, etc. should put me into the 9s easy - so long as I can hook it up. Hence my post.
Can anybody give me some guidance? I don't have unlimited funds but I will only do this right.

If your serious why don't you look into buying one of ther cars on this site. Racebuicks has a nice car listed that would more than fit your needs and I bet there are others out there. These can be purchased for less than you would spend doing it yourself then you can concentrate on a engine

John's right. I went down the same road you are going now. About 3 months of research, build a tube car or back half. I ended up buying a tube car from Jeff Hart. More bang for my buck, couldn't have built a back half car for what I got. It's more car than I need right now but the potential is to the moon. If you can afford a complete and not a roller thats even better, takes alot of frustration out of it. Hope this helps and not confuse the issue.
    Thanks Rick

There is a back half car in the cars for sale thread for less than 5K way cheaper than you can do it for.

Thanks guys. Saw the $5k roller and have inquired. I can see doing it myself is an expensive proposition. If there is a roller out there that can meet my needs then I'm all for it!!

BUT, if I were to do it. Do I need to back half or can I get away with frame rails, cross members, shortened axle and mini tubs? Or will I benefit from an all out setup w/ 4link/ladder?
