Can someone give me tips on cool tranny lines for a 400? I have heard TSP makes them, but I don't see them on the site. Can anyone give me some tips on fittings & cool lines to run through the frame?
    Thanx.

I have JW's kit on my car. Makes it real easy. I think it's $75.

If J.W.'s kit is $75.00, Go with that. I used Aeroquip braided lines and fittings, and It cost me more than double that. I ran it thru the frame, and used the red and blue fittings. It looks great, but I would have gone with Tri-shield, if I knew how cost effective it was. Good luck!

    Johnny,
I am doing exactly what you did by using the braided lines except,I got my lines from BNS out of Reading off Ebay and I will not have 1/2 as much as the 75 bucks in it. I also believe the hoses used in the kit by JW is slip fitting hose. Equally good but I never used it and was reluctant to try. I got 2 braided lines that are 60 inches long each for 9 bucks a piece and it had a -6AN straight fitting on it as well.

    Guys,

Yes, we do have a kit that I designed some time ago, to solve the issues of the cooler lines running right into the primary header pipes on cars with headers.

It is mainly for the guys that buy components from us, or for guys that we build their car here, but we do sell the kit, at cost, to board members when they request it.. that is why it's not on the TSP site. If we were to sell a lot of these to the general public, we would have to make some money doing it, to cover the time involved in putting it together, boxing it, shipping ect..

But, like all the parts we sell, (well, both of them).. this is more about public service to the Buick community, than it is about making a buck.. the focus of the business here it building engines, transmissions, and complete cars, and doing some hard to get services, so stuff like this is more about helping out guys who don't have an Aeroquip dealer, or the expertise to figure out the fittings and such, than anything else.

For those of you who live in a big city, and can locate an Aeroquip dealer, here are the part numbers for the kit. Make sure you get a wholesale cost, retail on these parts is well over $200..

It's all the best quality Aeroquip industrial stuff.

    Hose - 12' FC332-4
    Trans/radiator adapters (4) 200001-5-4b
    45* hose end (2) FC5849-0404S
    90* hose end (2) 191321-4S

My wholesale cost is $84.66.. I sell the kits for $85 plus shipping.. prices have went up here lately, since a few of you got this kit from me.

So if you have access to the parts, go ahead and pic them up, we will email the directions on putting it in to anyone who asks. I would attach it to the board here, but the file is too big..

If you live in the sticks, we will put a kit together and get it out to you.

We are lucky to be in this business, and to be able to work on GS's exclusively, and since we do virtually everything in house here on these cars, we have plenty of jobs making money, so we are not in a position to have to hoc parts to you guys for profit.. but will help you out if we can, and we don't mind "giving back" a little on stuff like this.

This line kit is really slick..

    Jim,
Please accept my apology if I offended you here.None was intended. I am impressed at the cost of your kit and I mulled it over highly after I seen the one Adam put on his Centurion. I don't have the 'luxury" to be able to afford a resto on my cars ,so I am forced to do my own work on my cars. I would love to have a restoration on my 1973 GS someday, but like my other cars, I will be doing it myself. I am a cheapskate by nature  and try to get things as economically as possible,so thats why I went the route I did. I guess its a blessing as I have parted out several GS cars and I know what has been done to my cars. I know that all those long cold evenings I spend on my cars are like you state "For the love of them" will pay off in the end.I am always asked why I work on them from my wife and my answer is because I like to. I can give you credit for the installation kit, as it gave me a great solution for a problem I had. Thanks for the great idea and it shows that at least someone listened to the idea. I like to take my own approach sometimes and sometimes it doesn't work out in the end.Sometimes it does though. Thanks for these little things,as this is why I like to visit this site,to learn and help others out as well. For the record, If I hadn't found the great deal on the braided hose, it wouldn't have even been any near your great price. I guess luck plays a role in things too.

    No offense taken Pat..

Just wanted to clarify why I don't have that kit on the TSP site, and what it was all about..

    Curious...

Before buying the kit from Jim W. I too looked into assembling my own kit. Finding the part numbers for the adapter fittings is a pain... Jim was nice enough to put them here but those 5/16 inverted flare fittings are not a common item. After downloading the Aeroquip catalog a couple of years ago I did find them but the cost on ordering the fittings was going to be about the same as Jims kit with the hose. Last spring I purchased another kit for my friends Cutlass that needed new trans. lines and he loves it.

    regards

I need to replace the lines on my car, is it possible to get a kit for my LeSabre/Wildcat? I'm also going to swap into an aluminum radiator.

Jim, I would really like to get a kit from you if you're still offering them. I live in Burnsville and would be happy to drive out to pick it up, assuming that would be easier for you. I'll toss a PM your way. Thanks!

Jim. I'm going thru these parts. Isn't the th400 cooler line connection at the trans a 1/4" pipe thread or do most people (adapt) a pipe thread to fit? I'm interested in the kit or making my own up however I only need the transmission half. unfortunately I don't have a th400 out of a car to play with currently. is there actually a flare connection at the transmission that this adapts to and not a pipe thread?

There are no pipe threads anywhere in tranny cooler lines. The fitting into the trans is a straight thread, with a metal gasket on the fitting. The line into the fitting is a flare.
In a pinch, you CAN force a 1/4" pipe thread fitting into the trans, but not a good idea...

ahh... thats why tci claims that there are 1/4" pipe thread. also makes it a much cheaper part.

Do the TSP cooler lines work with the stock cooler, or a separate aftermarket cooler?

currently it's set up for a stock trans cooler in the radiator with the parts listed. I plan on doing this setup on mine (I can get the lines and parts locally however :TU:) have an hydraulic line/aeroquip dealer near by. however I'll have a connection setup at my cooler.
