Ok call me stupid but do i need to remove the A/C bracket and alternator bracket for the timing cover come off?how about the cross over tubes? Thanks George
George, I can't answer for the A/C bracket, but the "cross-over tubes," if I read you correctly the cast iron part that holds the thermostat, yes, that needs to come off. Part of the bottom of that has an "O" ring , and seals into the water pump. Mark
You will have to remove the AC Bracket since one of the screws goes through the cover and water pump. Two of the screws, the ones for the water cross over tube, are also going through this bracket. The bummer is that the engineers felt that the bracket should be held on by a Head Bolt. Hope this helps. I just did it two times in two weeks so I have it a bit memorized. LOL.
The big bolt on the head has to come off as well to remove it?is it impossible to remove it without having to remove the A/C bracket?i dont recall the bolt on the water pump from the A/C bracket going all the way through to the block? Thanks
No you dont have to remove the head bolt. maybe loosen it a little to move the bracket out of the way to get the cover off. Thats the way it was on my 65 riv anyway. Save problem with the power steering bracket.
and what do i torque it down to after its done with?it doesnt look like the PS bracket is in the way on this. Thanks
I dont think you have to even loosen the head bolt. My 65 Riv has a "studbolt" there. so that you just remove the nut on top of the bolt to loosen/remove the bracket. But if you do remove it then torque it back to specs (I dont know what the specs say for that).
are you sure i can slide the bracket, cause i removed the nut off the stud and the thing aint even budging,is there anything im missing?i mean the alternator and the compressor are still on should i take them off?man this is the first time i`m dealing with a nailhead and this thing is a mission already, who the hell designed that whack ass bracket jesus christ Thanks
You just need it loose enough so you can slide the waterpump out from under it and replace it without messing up the gasket. once you have the waterpump off then there is plenty of room for the timing chain cover to be removed /installed. I don't recall any other bolts holding the bracket on , at least not any that held it too tight to remove the waterpump.
