What are my fellow sb buick people using in their motors? It being my first engine build, I used the link belt style chain that came in the cam kit I got, and after 5000 miles and a few buzzes to 5500rpm and beyond it was as worn and floppy as the original timing chain. Looking to get a double roller, what are you guys running? Any input is appreciated.

I use TA's Billet Roll Master.
Most all chains will develop some slack after use.
Whichever you choose, make sure the gears have timing adjustability so you can degree your cam:cool:

What is wrong with the standard double roller they offer, or is the rollmaster just that much better? it's just a street motor after all, I don't really need to go nuts with something like a chain and some gears, but anything's better than the link belt in terms of strength and longevity.

The double roller is fine it just lacks the adjustability the billet version has. Of course the billet version should be a bit more durable but it's big $. I still use it but I don't think it's required for a mild bios just ensure your cam is degreed and as long as it's close it's fine.

If you are using a factory replacement cam then just get the factory replacement chain and gears.

It would of helped if you mentioned what cam you're going to use?

With a performance cam you want to use a performance multiple keyway timing set so the cam can be degreed in. The factory replacement stuff is more of a line up the dots set it and forget type of install.

With the factory chain and gear set you have no adjustment if you need to change it when you degree cam. And sometimes the cams are not on spec so degeeing cam should really be done. I have heard some be 4 degrees off and one particular cam being 9 retarded. Will kill low end performance

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

I have had good luck using Cloyes and Melling for mild cam and stock replacement. For adjustable, Lunati and Comp are readily available. Even Jegs sells a billet set under their name.

It will most likely have another of the 268 comp cam, .469 lift on intake and exhaust, 268 adv duration. Yes, there are better cams, but I like the way this one performed and sounded too much to mess with it. The standard double roller TA timing set has three way adjustable crank gear, which I think would be fine in my application. Plus, it's almost half of what the billet sets are.
