Does anyone have or know where I can get a throttle solenoid that will fit a '65 Nailhead? My engine was not originally equipped with AC, but I added it. The idle needs to be kicked up when the compressor is running. I would need the solenoid and the bracket. Thanks.

I may be looking up the wrong thing, but I don't believe the V8 cars had one. The '66 Chassis manual refers to "Throttle Advance Vacuum Switch" for V-6 Only.

I found this in the Skylark section of the book. In the big car section I do not see reference to this at all. I assume this is what you are talking about.

It's listed in the Edelbrock catalog John. A little pricey, but what ya gonna do???

Thanks Tom! I guess I'll pay Edelbrock. The engine runs great, but It needs two different idle speeds. The transition from a really low idle speed with the AC running to a drive speed is ugly. Sorta like a rookie trying to parallel park a Model T.

Hey John, I bought a generic solenoid off ebay made my own bracket and wired to a toggle switch under dash. Could have wired to fan switch but don't need it on when running down the road. This way I can turn it off when cruisin down highway. Mine was a tight fit because I have the two fours on my car but it can be done. I got maybe 30 to 35 bucks in it.

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm basically lazy and have enough stuff going on that I try do do stuff the easy way these days. I couldn't find the solenoid on Edelbrock's online catalog, so I ordered a paper one. This is not an emergency, so if I have to wait until spring to get'er done, no big deal. I have to straighten out some fuel delivery issues anyhoo.

John, to wire it all you have to do is splice it into the compressor wire. Takes hardly ANY amperage to activate so there's no EXTRA stress on the electrical system or switches. When the A/C is on it will automatically turn on. When the A/C is off it too will also be off when it's not needed. No need for extra wiring nec. using a toggle.

That's not a problem Tom, I just couldn't find the solenoid on Edelbrock's on-line catalog. I like paper better anyway.

That is what I said Tom, I chose the toggle because I like the option of kicking up my idle with out turning on my compressor.

It seems John was having the too slow idle speed with the A/C on.
