try and buy one!!! I have talked to several pontiac dealer personnel and the here's the answer I am getting. They are only allotted a couple each, they are usually already spoken for, and expect to pay at least 5 grand OVER sticker if you can even find one. The one decent thing they are putting out this year and they are going to gouge everyone who tries to buy it. Sounds like Ford and the new Cobra! Kill the F-body, make a car that the F-body owners might be interested in, and then GOUGE THE HELL OUT OF THEM! GM really doesn't have anything exciting to offer anymore. And I don't think they care either. I have read some offical quotes from GM that said they are going to concentrate on the "sport compact" market because that is the future. Which explains the marketing blitz that out for the Sunfire,Vibe , and Cavalier. :blast: :blast: :blast: Brian
Makes me glad I work for a GM supplier. Guaranteed low price, and the best finance rate available. Now, if only I could afford one.... - Freed
I can also buy GM cars with the retired GM employee discount. The local dealer I talked to about it said they would not honor it on that car. Over sticker or not at all. Of course they didn't have one to sell so I guess it didn't matter! Brian
I wish I could get a hold of a few left hand drive models. I'd ship them over to you guys. They are made not 40 miles from here. Sounds like I could sell a few and with the funds I could buy any Buick I wanted.
They can't do that As far as I know, that dealer could get in big trouble for that if you wanted to escalate the issue.
That is what I thought but it would probably end up a waste of time. And I am sure they would deny it. But I won't be back! Brian
I work for a company that is also a key GM Supplier (Ford & BMW, too). But I don't think you can use that to force a dealer to sell you a limited production car at a discount. I seem to remember reading in the paperwork that certain vehicles are excluded from the program. Just my .02
now that I think of it you are probably right, Mike. I do remember when I bought my last new car, ( a 2000 Ram Air Trans Am) there were certain cars such as all Cadillac models and Corvettes that you couldn't buy using the GMS/GMO plan. That probably changes from year to year also.It was great though, my car stickered at 32135 and using the GMS plan plus a rebate they had at the time, I paid about 26500. Not too shabby! Brian
Same thing happened with the Plymouth Prowler. When I bought my Dakota the dealership had one in stock. The window sticker said $28,000.00 but they wouldn't sell it for less than $40,000.00
The irritating part was the arrogant attitude that i got from them. It was like "how dare you even think we would discount this car?" I am 43 so it wasn't like they could use the "young kid with no money" excuse on me. Which I did experience when I was a young kid with no money! Oh well, maybe I will consider it again next year when they spice it up some more! I hear that it may have RamAir and maybe a hood tach. We will see! Brian
No offense to Pontiac, but these cars are ugly. They certainly don't evoke the emotion of the original article. The pictures I saw don't even come close to ANY type of resemblence. You want a hot looking throw back muscle car, look no further than the new Mach 1. Man, I would love to get my hands on one. The shaker alone makes it worth the dough. Ford seems to really be on track with the nostaglia look. Give me the new Mach 1 stang over the bland, milk toast "new gto" any day. Not even a hood scoop! Talk about totally selling out a classic car heritage. Just my opinion, could be wrong. What do the rest of you think?
Yeah, kind of like what chevy did with the so called nova name back in the late 80's.What a joke that was!Put an American name on a piece of jap crap! :blast: :blast:
At least it's a "decent" performer with a V-8 and RWD. I think they really need to get on the ball, though. I would personally take a MErcury Marauder or a 2005 Mustang over a GTO. Those Marauders are BADAZZ!:jd:
I saw the pictures from the Aussie show, but it just doesn't do it for me. When you see the new GT-40 or Mach 1 you IMMEDIATELY know what the car is, or is trying to be. Tell me honestly that when you look at the Pontiac that a muscle car enthusiast will instantly see the link between this car and classic GTO's from the day. Not even close. I guess I'm just not in touch with modern design. I also think the new Dutaci is horrifically ugly.
How much How much is a GTO supposed to sticker for anyway? 30K? I think the Mustang GT's sticker @ 28K
Someone correct me if I am wrong since I never was able to see one but I am pretty sure it was right at 35,000 not including the HUGE dealer markup that would be on it Brian
I will agree that GM N/A has screwd up long time ago, the Monaro becoming the GTO is just a quick fix from Lutz , mainly because all your cars over the years had become FWD... they are trying to move back to RWD... i don't know what to say, you guys (GM) came to aussie and requested this vehicle, we didnt force it on you. here are some small clips of various holdens, inc the monaro, the ss and the ute. you might need media player 9 to view them. www.micro-op.com.au/execls1/nm.mpeg www.micro-op.com.au/execls1/aussiels1.wmv www.micro-op.com.au/execls1/rogueute.wmv www.micro-op.com.au/execls1/ls1.avi
