Finally pulled the engine out today! now i can paint the engine compartment finally! and also get this engine done the main essential thing which money needs to get stuck into 1st!!:TU: ou:
no you dont my borther has a longshaft and his car is awesome i also have a short shaft too...it depends i think my other tranny is a turbo 400 so ill probably use that one
The short shaft is a direct bolt in. A long shaft requires an altered drive shaft. If you have a short shaft use that to save extra work.
even with an altered driveshaft, you could have problems with a longshaft...is the tranny mount the same? will the pinion angle be messed up?
You have to drill two new crossmember mounting holes in the frame. I don't think the pinion angle thing would be a big deal, although it would change a hair.
Re: no you dont the "awesomeness" of your brother's car has nothing to do with whether or not it has a long shaft transmission, I assure you. Did your car come with a driveshaft in it? If it did, and it was connected and worked with the longshaft transmission, you can stay with it, although the car originally came with a short shaft. By the way, the longshaft, if it originally came behind that engine, is a TH 400 too. (sounds like you are not sure of that...)
