I think what really puts the HP of fuel cars in perspective is this example; If a top fuel car is sitting on the starting line, and a Maserati is approaching the starting line in the other lane at 200mph, when the maserati hits the line the top fueler leaves, the top fueler will get to the finish line first. Now THAT is acceleration. gary
I agree Gary "the great" When he launches that funny car it sure looks violent, must be a hell of a rush.
Great video and perspectives! Reminds me of this video from six years ago. It doesn't get right to the point but about 2:12 is a camera on the front of Larry's car as he catches up to the other guy. The other small detail that gives me a chuckle is watching the keys hanging out of the ignition switch while going down the track. It's also the same track as the OP's video. Thanks SilverBuick I teach about acceleration. We use a primitive accelerometer in class. The keys will help illustrate this concept.
Its fast, but NO comparison to a Top Fueler. Top Fueler shuts off 150' out and still beats the Nova to the stripe.
There was a video years ago I seen showed a GTP Pontiac owned by a track owner or something vs a top fuel car Pontiac got a 1/8 mile head start and top fuel only blipped the throttle and cossted past by him at line 120 or something like that that was pretty wild
No argument from me, not much compares to the barely contained short burst of energy of a top fueler. But a top fueler doesn't have a set of ignition keys hanging off the dash either p But I am also a tad bias p
