Anyone with original interiors in our muscle BUICK cars, circa 60's -70's, know the delicious aroma I am describing....the flavors do vary a bit, but if you love the dank stank and you know what I am talking about, chime in.
    Cheers!

They should make that a cologne. Its hard to describe. I just call it "old car smell". And each car has it own unique aroma. In the beater, its really strong. Its got that weird "mohair" scent you get with 1930's, 1940's car. Especially when you turn the heat on. Love it

I heard a couple years back that burlap is the biggest cause of that smell. I'm sure burlap was used on every car seat made here.

I laugh sometimes when I get home from a car night, Jen will kiss me and say, "phew!...you smell like old cars" lol

My buddy has a garage full of old cars. He's got a 1954 Hudson Hornet that smells exactly like my dad's 1953 Buick Roadmaster did when I was a kid! Yes, I love the smell too!!!

I love that smell a lot as well. Yet another reason why old cars are an ""experience" to me instead transportation from point A to point B. I have only had my buick for 2 years and recently I was worried once I noticed I wasnt smelling that anymore. I thought "oh no mybe you get used to it" Then one day I left it outside the carport for something and was greeted by burning vinyl on my butt and the old car aroma! I was so happy lol

Every car is unique, it's like your own fart, everyone else thinks it stinks like s*** but to yourself it ain't that bad at all...lol

My 56,000 mile GTO has sat in an old garage all them years and has that smell with a mix of musty and dirty big time, on a windy day outside with the windows down I can smell it 20 feet from the car.

Everyone likes there own brand! My 21 yr old daughter said "Dank" is a good thing. However I dont think she was thinking about old cars.

Smell doesn't bother me at all, kinda like it in a weird way I guess.
Burlap was a good description in above comment.
I always thought it had to be something to do with asbestos.

I may not be an "old car" smell. After all, these cars do have large back seats. ;)

My Skylark was my Grandmothers car brand new, sat in it all the time while I was growing up. even after a complete interior restoration and 45 years have gone by it smells exactly the same. Love it.

I removed my carpet, spread it out on clean cement drive on a sunny warm day, washed it with soap, let it dry. Vacuumed it, and it still smells the same.
I think it's the cardboard colored jute backing that's the cause....

My old roof drain wasn’t aligned right, and I had standing water in the rear seat foot wells whenever I left the car out and it rained. I got the “dank” along with the moldy/mildewy aroma every time I opened a door. After the rebuild, the roof drain was fixed, the carpet was replaced with new insulation, and now it’s just the “old convertible “ cologne I grew up with. Makes me smile every time I sit in the drivers seat.

Mine is a mix of old car smell and dryer sheets with just a touch of mothball.

LOL, my 67 coupes back seat is one of the most cramped uncomfortable back seats of any car I have ever owned. No room back there for any extracurricular activities

I was just in the garage and stuck my head in the opened window of the GTO and instantly the car starts to express itself. If i had to describe it like a cigar .... Each inhale reflects a marriage of 49 year old dirty madrid vinyl combined with strong musty aroma resembling an old basement. It has quality's of gas, burnt oil, old plastic and just hint of old man ass. There may of been a intonation of rodent we-we but hard to distinguish.
