buick vs chevy with the same hp the buick will be faster, i feel because of the point were the power is made, I have raced a bunch of cars and my car always has less power but always seems to be out in front. good kill

Sorry man, I didn't realize that someone had pissed on your Wheaties this morning. Hope you're having a better day, but just to clear up any misunderstanding I am not choosing sides here. I already stated that I wasn't discrediting the Buick nor defending the Chevy. I understand brand loyalty, nothing wrong with that, but putting that aside, if that is even possible for some of you with tunnel vision, doesn't it seem odd you to that two cars with nearly identical horsepower should be that far apart?

first off, if someone had pissed in my wheaties, I would have switched bowls with you when you weren't looking:laugh:

Second, I'll bet the torque curve on the chevy motor is quite a bit different than the one on the Buick motor, and we all know that torque is what wins races. HP claims mean little to me.

    George,
My apologies for derailing your thread a little. It was never my intention to downplay your kill. You deserved it :TU:

my hat is off to you george because you have your car dialed in.i guess your buddy doesn't know how to care to tweak his car as well as you have done yours.remember if you want torque buy a DIESIEL!

I had to race guys in highschool with my 70 Buick Electra and they couldn't believe I beat them. I did get beat by an Elcamino with a 454 that had a 410 12 bolt posi and I still had stock single track stock gear so when we took off I just smoked the right rear and told him I had no traction! That's how you loose with class.
The guys with Chevys at the strip always tell me "Damm your Buick leaves hard! You are way out in front before I get moving". I tell them thats Buick torgue and the 5000 stall! A lot of fun racing stock 455 Buicks running in the 10's!
Good kill with your Buick maybe you should start drag racing it!

So true! Can't tell you how many "650 HP" cars have been embarrassed by a 530 HP Skylark...:Brow:

Have always loved your car, good kill. I'm 60 and keep a picture of it to remind myself I'm going to build one more someday.....

Prep is half the battle... It was 1981 and my first fast Buick was a perfect 70 Skylark (blown engine) I bought for $200, then I bought a wrecked 71 455 Centurion for $200 and swapped the engine (cam change) and TH400 in with a 3000 stall. A friend had a posi 3.90 geared ford 9" out of a cougar and I swapped it in with relocated control arms and pinion angle and it hooked real, real hard. I embarrassed many a better car for the first 1/8 mile though it only ran low 13.0's. On the street from a dig it was unbeatable, they would slide by after 70-80 mph if they had a real car. I got every last horse out of that engine and it revved cleanly.
