TH400 to M22

I've got a '67 GS400 with a'70 455 under the hood currently backed by a TH400. However, this car was originally.built with a four speed underneath and the pedal assembly is still in place. I intend to put in a rebuilt M22Z from Jeff at Midwest, and then back it up with a GearVendors overdrive.

Looking for any parts that could contribute to the Muncie swap. Including a four speed console. Does anyone have anything to help me get this job underway?

Or really anything they're interested in selling for a '67 GS?

    Thanks guys,
    -Jared

Do you mean console or consolette? A console sits between the seats and is for storage. A consolette surrounds the shifter handle and was an option for manual trans cars.

Thank you for the correction. I'd like to find a consolette.

I'd be looking into the McLeod hydraulic system for the trans, 67 4speed linkage gonna be tough to find, and wont work or would be a major pita with headers if you have it want them

I would like to keep the headers, so I'll look into the hydraulic system that you mentioned. I'm guessing it's pricey, so I'll have to compare that against buying new headers.

Should have a bell housing for you, maybe a fork . I also have a complete consolette listed as well as several tops to the consolette.

We generally spec such a conversion cost at 3-4K.

Lol. I wish. The gearvendors alone is almost $3k.

Gsfred:: Do you have a link to the consolette and bellhousing? Or do I need to scroll through the listing? Bear with me here, I'm new to the forums.

I'd like to see all the pieces that you have on the market. Prices for the consolette and Bell?

Bump. Its looking like I'll be back home from my current deployment in just a few weeks, and I'm striving to have all the pieces in place to get underway when I get home. Has anyone got any four speed parts laying around?

Jeff at Midwest quoted $4700 for everything to do the conversion. Do I just need to take that route? Or is it feasible to source used parts in timely fashion?

I would use a Richmond 5 speed if I wanted overdrive. This will help with the drive tunnel modification issue. The ballpark price that I quoted is correct for a 4 speed and not a 5 speed.

    What gearing is Jeff suggesting?

    wheelz 'B' is for Buick.

I THINK I have one last complete 4 speed setup in my stash. BellH, Flywheel, clutch fork, rods, linkages, pedals, levers, chassis brackets, backdrive unit, a Muncie M20 Tranny, mid 60s Buick shifter with lift up reverse lockout, and a 4 speed consolette with factroy TACH too! These parts are stored and burried deep within my storage unit so IF this is something you are SERIOUSLY interested in at $4800, AND YOU ARE WILLING TO PICK UP, and are NOT in a huge hurry, please advise and I will 'begin' to gather all the parts for pix....

What gears do you have in the rear? I did a 4-speed conversion for a customer who ordered the M22Z wide ratio, and I built him a 3:08 posi rear for that. This all went behind a stroked big block that looked stock, including factory exhaust Manifolds, power brakes, and AC.It made 500HP/540TQ on a little hyd roller cam. It’s a fun car to drive.
The rear gear swap might be better than getting a gear vendors unit.

Thanks for all of input guys. I’ve put the order in for a M22z from Midwest (2.99 first gear), and a GV Overdrive unit. Hope to have it all installed by the end of July. I’ll keep you posted.

    @wheelz:
Thank you for the offer! I wish I’d have seen your message sooner but I put my orders in about three days ago. Hopefully everything is as good as it sounds!
