I'm about to start on my first project, a 65 LeSabre I got for a graduation gift. One of the replies in my Wet Behind the Ears post said I should consider backing my 300 v8 with a TH-350. I am curious as to what year/model cars I could find that would have a TH-350 which would bolt up to my engine.

I am planning on having to rebuild any tranny I get, so all I really need to know is what kinda donor car I should look for.

    th-350

    Fred,
You may have a st-400 behind that 300 engine,
which is a better tranny than the st or th350.
How many foward drive position due you have?
    If you have 3 (L1, L2 & D) I believe it's a st-400.
    And it's probably a switch-pitch.

  3. he will have a 300 motor with a 300 trans
i have 2 of them here that are parts cars
    both of them 300 motor/ 300 trans
never seen a 400 behind the 300 motor unless someone put it in.
there is no 350 trans that will bolt to the nailhead/300 motors
if you need any parts let me know
like i said i have 2 of those for parts

    400

    Greg,

    My 65 came with a 300/st400.
    This was the original tranny..
Maybe it was an option that year?
Just wanted Fred to check it out first.

    i never seen a 400 behind a 300 motor :Do No:
thanks for correcting me though :TU:

Hi Greg, There were LeSabre 400 's that were the 300 with the 400 trannie. Nice combo. The 300/340/350 engines are the BOP pattern bellhousing so there are lots of trannies that will work for the 300. TH350 seems a good choice as it takes a little less power to run than the th400. :beer

I have the production ##s of the LeSabre 400 (and other stuff) at home if you are interested.

  7. the 300's have the round nailhead mounting to them though?
i have another question for ted
would a nailhead 425 stick bell housing fit on a 300 motor?
    looks like its the same?
    thanks
    Greg

Hi Greg, lost this thread but there are 300's for the 300/340/350 engines and the rare and 65/66 gs only 300's for the Nailhead. If you have a 425 Nailhead Stick Bellhousing (from the 4-door maybe? :Brow: ) it will not work with the 300. How is the rare beast anyway? I'm looking for pedals to use in my Custom... Hope this helps! Ted I think I can get a side by side of a nailhead bellh and a 300. SeeYa! :beer

  9. thanks Ted
i am going to try and put a pedal set up in one of the 65 converts
i am looking for another set of pedals and bell housing set up as well
would just be nice to rod around a bit with the stick in it and a convert
i am not pulling the 4dr apart yet
i have it in storage and is back in the barn where it can't be gotten at for a bit anyways
the 300 must have the bop patter and the nailhead has the round one i figure
i looked at my 65 lesabre convert and it has a 300 with the newer style trany bell in it.
    thanks again
    Greg

Cool, another 4-speed Wildcat! :Brow: I'm looking at pedals from "off" brands for the Custom- Pontiac etc. Ted

  11. the closest i found so far ted are a body tempest, gto style
no overload spring like the cats though
the 65 skylarks have a diff type of pedal
    i have several chevy, pontiac
mopar sets that we have taken out and tried to match up to making work and have not found what i want i guess
also have a stick set up out of a 60 lasabre that was way off as you can emagin
i'll let you know as well and see about getting pics if i find something realy close

Thanks Greg. Here is the picture of the belhousings side by side. Besides the different bolt pattern the nailhead one is 3/4 inch shorter.
I tried to buy Pontiac big car pedals that Ames eng. has advertised but they do not have them- they had the made and they were not "correct" enough for them so they sent them back. That was my big hope. May have to forge one out of another brake pedal :Brow:

    Here is a pic
