Went to test and tune last Saturday here at G'ville Raceway.

The air was very cool and very dry and I'm figuring on finally getting my 10 second pass.

Anyway the T runs great going to the track but is running lousy on the track no matter what chip I put in it, only pulling low 12's and won't rev over 4500 before breaking up. Darn, Darn, Darn!

The track is like grease and I can't post better than a 2.1-60' and am sliding all over through 1st on my new MT's ET Streets. The big boys are having a real hard time keeping themselves off the walls.

So I decide to just drive like I'm on the street and ease down the track a couple of more passes.

First up a gutted stang 5 speed with 4.10's on slicks with a cage.
At the line he clears his nitrous and I'm thinking uh-oh trouble!
We line up I run my meager, floundering 12.3 @ 113mph to his 13.0.
    What a waste of money.

Second race I line up next to this brand new 745 Beemer and the kids puts on a helmet.
So I'm thinking hmmmm, maybe he's got something here not seen by the naked eye.
Build boost at the line and blow the tires away, back off regroup and run a floundering 12.5 @112.5 mph again and can't go over 18# boost.
    He runs 14.3.
14.3 and you bring a helmet?

Time to go home this is no fun. T continues to run lousy and won't rev over 4500 before breaking up all the way home.

I want 10's before the weather gets hot down here.

    Mikey,
What do the scan numbers say? Fuel pressure? Knock Retard?

Well, i cant help you out with your problem... but its always cool when you still destroy other cars when yours isnt even running properly. Nice Kills!

I hope you get your car straightened out though. Sounds like it must be quite a beast!

Mike, can you pull timing from your chip? Is it a TT? Maybe try some race fuel. If it won't pull past 4500, could be the computer pulling out too much timing...KR?

Yea, we saw your car but did not see you bud.

This was the first time out on the new motor/trans.

I tried a new chip from Jay Carter and all I can say is WOW did it pull hard till 4500.

O2 volts were in the 770-810 range so there is enough fuel.

New progresive alky spray was set to come on at 14# and be at full spray by 20# with duel #15 nozzles. First time out with this system.
Turbo board said I need more alky if I'm seeing timing retard with those fuel numbers.

At 19-20# boost I would start to see knock and the ECM would start backing timing out. 8 gallons of 93 octane to 3 gallons of 112 octane mixed.

Fuel pressure is 45# with the vacuum hose on the regulator and 52# with it off. Knock retard hit a high of 11 degrees and that is way, way to high, will blow head gaskets out there.

The old motor had an honest 8-1 compression but the new motor has a real 8.67-1 compression and the new cam has more duration and a bit more lift.

But no matter how easy you press the throttle it will break up over 4500 even with no timing retard. It is not valve float it is a spark or fuel issue.

The coil pac and ignition module are at least 17-18 years old as they were on the car when I purchased it in the early 90's. They could be the originals, I will have to look for that GM sticker on the coil pack. Coil pack ohmed out okay though.

    Thanks guys.

Had some time today to mess with the Turbo.

I looked at the recorded runs in the OTC 4000 and didn't notice it the first time I looked at them but the MAF readings never went over 35 at launch with WOT. Causing my miss and stumble. They eventually catch up but bounce back down and then up again.

I unplugged the connections to the MAF and the translator cleaned them and hooked them back and it works correctly again. Miss and stumble over 4000-4500 rpm solved.

I found a piece of trash (looks like a flake of rubber vacuum line) in the vacuum/pressure line to the alky control. I'm guessing it caused a low/slow manifold pressure to the alky control resulting in it not coming on fully and providing enough alky.

Took it out for a ride and it is pulling like a rocket sled again. Sliding all through first and halfway through second. Spinning so hard the tires aren't even squealling. Banged third hard and pulled to 120 MPH with only 3 degrees on knock retard at 25# boost on pump gas on my Jay Carter race chip!

    Oh Yea Baby I'm Back!

Picked up my 87 T Ltd last summer.....did the spring cleaning on it and drove it like I stole it all summer. Put over 12000 trouble free miles on it! Only problem I had was a defective Walbro 340 fuel pump (there's a suprise).
Other than the FP the car has been flawless....wish I'd bought one sooner.

    This is my third one.

The first one was stock with the usual bolt ons to make it run high 12's. It was my daily driver to work and was very reliable and was able to average 18-19 city mpg and 28-29 hwy. Only had a lifter collapse once. Should have never sold it.

The second one was a 23K flawless showroom T that never saw regular driving or rain with the factory Goodyear tires. Bone stock down to the plastic screen in the intercooler and stock air cleaner. A garage queen. Was offered 3X what I paid for it. Sorry I sold that one too.

This one has been heavily modified. It is the fastest street car I've ever owned. 625 HP at the crank is the reason for its being b#tch#.
Plus all the electrical connectors are now 22 years old. It is actually too fast for the street realistically. You can only keep your foot in it for a second or two on city streets or you will be going way too fast plus it blows the tires away if you go to full boost under 40 mph. First gear is useless you have to wait for second before you gas on it. This is the one I want to sell and build something early to mid 60's BBB power. I went too far with theT. A mid-low 12's turbo is very reliable and fun to drive along with great gas mileage. You just have to give up that great V-8 rumble though. The Stage 1 with the Mickey Thompson headers and the 3" exhaust is the best sounding car I've ever owned. The V-6 sounds sick no matter how fast it is going.

There are some very, very fast BBB and Turbo cars on this board who make more power than I do so I would imagine they are even more of a handfull than mine. I can't imagine trying to control them on wet pavement as mine is impossible to drive in the rain. At this power level you aim it more than drive it, you must be straight before you gas on it. I turn the boost way down when it is wet. Almost any boost at 65-70 mph highways speed results in tire spin and that sick dance feeling underneath you.
