TA_290-08H Cam???

... TA-Performance :beer were out of the "TA-413" cams, so I ordered the "TA-290-08H" cam (so I can pick my 455 up March 26th 2010ou. I have 10:5 compression steel pistons, Stage-1 iron heads, Edelbrock Performer port-matched to the heads, TA long-style headers, GN posi with 342's, TH400 3-speed with 2800 stall. Also, my 1973 Buick 455Rochester 4bbl carb was rejetted/rebuilt to handle the 462 (tricking it out all cost me $300 cash).

Nope Buick did it in the 80's. It's from an 87 Grand National. and the Jeep steering box has the same metric fittings. I just added the res. tank. The pulley's and even belt are the from the 87 GN.

You'll get more responses to your question soon I'm sure. There are quite a few of us with that cam on this board. However, my car STILL isn't running. ran into a few problems of various things not just car related.

EDIT search for that cam and you'll find other postings with it.

You have a typo there on your pistons.

I'm running that cam. I've got just under 10:1 compression, ported iron heads, Edelbrock performer, Holley 850, 1/2" spacer, TA 2" headers, 3" pipes with dynomax mufflers. Idle is very lumpy, sounds awesome. Idle vacuum is a bit light for power brakes, but I've been told I could degree the cam to get better idle and not affect the power output. I had my distributor set up to match the cam and the convertor and now all I can say about it is WOW!!!!!

You're getting some answers here but the sensible place to ask this question would've been in the "Street/Strip BBB" forum. It doesn't matter if the 455 is in a Regal or a Skylark or a '56 Roadmaster, the cam will act about the same.

The cam will have a bit rougher idle than the 413. A friend of mine runs one in his "Regal" and his power brakes seem to be working ok.

In 1997, I created what I call "My Buick Book" stuffed with Buick 455 info/photos. Your Trans Am rocked-the-house! CC states that,

"The car not only looks great, but it hustles as well. In Bracket 2, the T/A made it to the finals only to be stopped by a thunderstorm that put the skids to the GS Nats."

One of the things about your Trans Am that I loved, was the fact that you employed the original Buick 455 a/c compressor! You really made the engine bay look like it came from the damn factory like that.:TU: I suffer from OCD on Axis 2 ... SO I REEEALLY APPRECIATE NEATNESS, AND THINGS LOOKING-PERFECT.

I have 10.1 compression, Stage-1 iron heads, Edelbrock Performer (port-matched to heads by Dan Smith at D&S Performance), Aluminum radiator, dual Derale electric fans, TA long-style headers w/3" true duals ending with Thrush mufflers, TH400 3-speed tranny with shift-kit, TCI valve-body, 2800-stall converter from Dan Smith, 29,200-gvw tranny cooler w/1/2" aluminum lines, and GN posi rear with 3:42's ... and the TA290_08H cam. This all goes in my '87 Regal the 1st week in April.:TU:

<hr style="color: rgb(159, 178, 184);" size="1">   Ed's compression is actually 10.31 to 1, and I told him that for just driving normally, with that cam (TA290_08h), pump premo should be just fine.. If he is going to pound on it, a little blend is good insurance.

But if you know Ed.. he will be running blended fuel all the time.

I have that cam in my 455 with around the same compression. I am using stock 1.55 rockers with TA hardened rocker shafts. I DO plan on pounding on it ... and I have NO clue as to what "blended fuel" means.

Please help.

The lowest percentage blends are being marketed and introduced to work with current technologies while paving the way for future integration. E10 Policy<o></o>

On 22 September 2005, in response to the Biofuels Taskforce report, the fleet introduced a range of measures to promote the biofuels/ethanol industry in Australia including that the Government will demonstrate its confidence in ethanol blended fuel by encouraging users of Commonwealth vehicles to purchase E10 where possible. The Department of Finance and Deregulation has been tasked with implementing the fleet-related recommendation.

When I say blended fuel.. that's a little race fuel mixed in with the pump premo.. to raise the octane.

5 gallons of 110 race fuel blended to 15 gallons of 92 octane.. Like that..

every engine will be slightly different, based on a number of variables, but typically you can get away with just over 10-1 with that cam, and Iron heads. Listen carefully for detonation (pinging) when your on it hard.

We made 570 hp 565 tq with 10.2-1 pump gas motor Ported 67 big port heads with stage 1 valves, a TA sp1, 990 holley, shorty headers and a HEI.
