Even better, he predicted it:grin:  Just goofin. I have a Tansmission Specialties trannie and have had good luck with it, I was sorry to read an alternate reality. Just re-read the thread, hoping for a happy ending.

Yes, I FORBADE him from doing this to prevent contamination ... actually I think he wanted to reverse the input/output which certainly would have blown back any contaminants

    Right and right, Skeeziks.

New cooler arrived today and will be installed tonight for a real maiden drive tomorrow. Stay tooned.

    Yards,

    Thanks for this thread.

You've been to H#LL & back with this tranny issue and I hope your problems are over.

    OK guys!

I'm getting ready to buy a tranny cooler for the GS.
Which ones work???:confused: :) Suggestions??

    TIA

I would have hooked it back up exactly as it was- not with reversed lines. I learned a long time ago that if you can't turn a problem off and then back on, you really can't conclude you've located the root cause. That's a sure fire way to "solve" the same problem over and over utilizing inconclusive evidence unless you got lucky.

So, no whining when the problem suddenly turns itself back on because you didn't follow simple scientific method. Any contaminants from pushing the fluid in the same direction were already in the trans or lodged in the cooler. Not much of a high probability to make things worse on a 15 second drive.

    We will agree to disagree.

I agree 100%. But at the time I had just lost my cell phone on the test drive and was unable to find it (I later found it unharmed in the middle of the street), then I burned my arm on the header (still hurts), and I've dealt with this BS for too long. So I'm hedging my bet and swapping coolers. I think I'm right, based on how little flowed out of the B&M unit when I unhooked it and how slow it was to flush when I did it last week. Seems like a restriction to me.

So some day real soon we'll be able to see if this transmission swap cures the original "laying over when hot at the top of first gear" issue, which is what started this whole jag in the first place.

Let's see... to fix this problem I have: rebuilt the fuel system from tank to carb, which lead to a fuel pressure issue that could only be cured with an expensive Aeromotive pressure regulator, swapped distributors, swapped ignitions, swapped MSD boxes, pulled and dyno'd the engine, then built a new engine with a different cam and installed it, then pulled and dyno'd THAT engine, then uncorked the headers and beat the snot out of it in an industrial park for a day, then replaced the transmission and had the converter rebuilt, then relaced the transmission again and had the converter flushed, installed and plumbed a trans cooler, then replaced that trans cooler with a new one.

Can somebody remind me why we do this again????

Because when it's running right, you have a scary fast, power everything, air conditioned, beautiful body lines Riv that has been extensively modified to your liking and taste. And that, my friend, puts a big grin on your face! :TU:

And you're a damn good racer with it to boot.:3gears:

Yeah - get that junk running by late July. Someone's gotta buy me dinner after a long hot day at the track and me not winning bupkis

Another day, another setback. Nobody has the -An fittings I need in stock, so they'll be here tomorrow. I should see the street on Saturday.

Then I'll just need to get Nick motivated to paint the hood.

We're good to go! Trans shifts great!

The only full-throttle 1 - 2 shift I made DID NOT lay over, but one shift is too soon to tell. Once I get my hood on I'll be able to drive it more and see for sure.

One casualty of all this is my AC no longer blows cold. Looks like it needs another charge.

Dude, put a trans temp gauge in there when you can. With your history it'd be good to know if you're heating up your new tranny. The Summit deep cast pan is a nice job and if you send it to me I'll get a bung welded in for the gauge. Better safe than on your back again swearing at your car and cursing the Gods. You can sell the pan you have now, or if the casting is thick enough on the side you might be able to drill and tap that pan for a bung.

    Your mother's a bung.

    hee hee

With the cooler and fan setup and expensive trans fluid, I'm pretty sure it won't be running hot. But if I get uneasy about it I'll take you up on the offer. Thanks!
