So I have a 58 Special with the 364 nailhead. Previous owner passed away before finishing rebuilding the motor. Motor was bored, etc and shows little wear, however its bolted in the car and just has the block, crank, rods, and pistons. Since the heads need gone through I was wondering about options about swapping parts. 401-425 cranks have more stroke and was wondering if a 401 or 425 crank and con rods bolt into a 364 to get a few more cubes? I know there is crank differences pre 64 and post 64 along with starters, etc, etc, but what have you guys tried in regards to swapping parts from different displacements? I see Centerville is working on a adapter to mount 401/425 intakes on 364s, but what about the heads, cranks, connecting rods, etc?

    Hi,

I believe the 364 has a lower deck height, so not sure if you would have room for the extra stroke, and considering the cost for special rods or pistons, it would be cheaper to find a 401 or 425.

The heads do interchange so you might gain a little more performance from later 401/425 heads.

    Regards,

I knew it would be a long shot. I was just curious of the possibilities. The 364 can rev easier then the larger nailheads so I might use that to my advantage when I build it
