My brother and I headed out to the HUGE swap meet at the Michigan State Fairgrounds today. Let me tell you there must have been 15,000 people there. It was elbow to elbow the entire time we were there. We were walking through the last building and this was definitely the low buck area, no heat, and greasy parts. I happen to look down as we were walking and I spotted a bumper on the floor. Heres what the masking tape says: 71 GS N-25 $100. :jd: :jd: We were both falling over each other to try and get a better look at this thing. It looks pretty good there is a small dent and it's a little pitted but worth probably four times what he wants for it. Here's the best part, my brother asks the guy what he will take for the bumper and the guy says "Hows 75 bucks sound".ou: Then as we were walking away the guy and his buddy are laughing like we wasted $75 on an old bumper. Obviously he didn't know what he had. My bro is going to have it fixed and slap it on his '71 this spring.
Excellent! The seller broke the second rule of sales....never laugh with the other party in earshot. This time the joke was really on him. I wonder if he has any other GS parts he can rip you off with.....
i won't mention what i paid for mine off of ebay but i did get a set of tail pipes and original tips that are good mandrel bent 2.5 pipes i sell them for 150.00 plus shipping kinglou71gs@aol.com
I was glad that my brother stumbled on to a good deal. Last year he bought what he thought was a '71 N-25 but it turned out to be a '72. The guy swore that it was a '71 and the way that he took the pictures in the sun the glare covered the holes that would have made it obvious that it was a '72. He was pretty ticked off after he shelled out 400 bucks for it. Although he did make half of his money back. Someone gave it a good home on a '72.
Hi Todd, Glad to hear that Chris found an N25 for the convertible! Those are really cool bumpers. I have wanted one for my 72 Stage 1 for a long time, just haven't invested the money. Tell Chris I said `Hi'.
Hi Larry, there is a 72 on E-bay. Now I just have to get the bumper looking good and round up some tips. The fun never ends does it.
Here is the best part. He took $75 for it. It even has a decentset of lenses.Remember the guy I bought it from was laughing like he had ripped me off.
TOOK THE N25 OFF MY 71 GS TO HAVE RECHROMED, PLACED IT NEXT TO A 71 BUMPER, STARTED THINKING. TOOK THEM BOTH TO A METAL SHOP. NOW HAVE A VERY NICE N25 (NO ROLLED LIP) ON A SKYLARK CONVT. I'VE ALMOST FINISHED. I'M PRETTY PICKY, AND IT LOOKS GOOD. CHRIS
Hey Buickboi< can you post picks of the bumper after it's finished?I've been thinking about doing the same thing with a spare 71' bumper and would be curious to get some measurements from you about the bumper. Thanks,Jeff B.
JEFF, I HAD ANOTHER ONE DONE THAT HAS NOT BEEN RECHROMED YET. THE MEASUREMENTS ARE THE SAME ON A TRUE N25, BUT TAKE A FEW PICS TOMORROW (TUESDAY) AND GET THEM TO YOU. CHRIS
I don't have the info handy, but a while back someone posted the information on a company that could stamp your stock bumper with the N25 cutouts. Don't remember who it was, but that would save a lot of trouble for some of you welding two bumpers together...:Comp: Hopefully that person will see this thread and chime in with the contact info. I always have thought it would be cool to have a '70 N25 bumper... or maybe even a SportWagon with N25 exahust :bglasses:, although I don't think there would be enough room under there for that.
YEARS AGO I SAW AN N25 ON A 70. THAT'S WHAT GAVE ME THE IDEA. NO NEED TO WELD THE TWO BUMPERS TOGETHER, ANY DECENT METAL SHOP CAN MEASURE AND CUT ANYTHING YOU WANT. OH, WHAT DID IT COST ME? ... $50.00. JEFF B., I COULDN'T GET THE PICS TODAY, BUT IT DOESN'T LOOK ANY DIFF'T THEN THE N25 PICS ABOVE. CHRIS
