I have owned a 63 Riviera for 2 years now and the previous owner swapped out the original transmission for a Super Turbine 400 that was built in 1964. The transmission shift linkage is brazed to the shift shaft as you can see in the photo which I would like to correct. I am looking for replacement parts but I'm curious why this might have been done in the first place. Can anyone offer up ideas as to why someone would braze the linkage like this ? that should be a shaft with a nut. I'd bet the shaft broke or the threads stripped. I'd leave it. if it's made it this long it'll probably last forever

Looks like a great upgrade, from a dynaflow to a TH400. Things like that take
some work on the shift linkage (ask me how I know). That does look pretty solid,
and I would leave it alone as long as it works well. Perhaps he made up the
right geometry, but didn't know how to make a hole with 2 flats. Bruce Roe

ALL '64 TH400's came like that from the factory. They were bolted on starting in '65

I never would have guessed that was a factory assembly. Thanks for the info.
