This is always the time of year where it would be so nice to have a classic car that one could drive all year. Something most of you guys take for granted. Added the Stabl (in that stupid 2 stage bottle) to a full tank, washed the car and changed the oil and disconnected the battery. It sits in a warehouse sandwiched between a cigarette boat and a "77 last of the big lincoln Town cars. This year, I only had time for a diff rebuild and do the interior swap. Engine swap now pushed back to Spring next year. I'm glad it's inside and dry as I had no room for it in the garage.
I hear ya! Mine's going away next week. I normally winterize it and store it under cover in my driveway because the Riv is longer than my garage is lol. This year I was able to get a good deal on an indoor heated storage unit. I wish I could drive it all year! I will be pulling the power steering pump and steering box off once inside the unit and will rebuild them over the winter. Hopefully I can get back to the engine this winter and if (big IF) it's ready drop it in next spring.
My Skylark will either sit in the driveway or next to the garage for the winter since its only a 2 car garage and it has the mustang convertible and Camaro in it now. Have been trying to sell the mustang but until then the Skylark will sit outside.
During the winter, if the roads are salt free, and no snow on the ground and the sun is shining, I will take my GS out from a drive.
Feel for you guys. I drive and race year round. Only time they get stored is when its broke or I have more than one to drive
If they would stop using the salt or the liquid crap (whatever it is) on our roads up here I would buy a nice set of snows and rip around in the Riv on nice winter days. It's got wipers and heat so why not
As to the OP, I did that for decades. Here in Sunny SW Florida that's no longer an issue. I wait for the winter months to do my driving of the old cars. The T isn't air conditioned, and I actually use the Buchev more in the wintah.
1969RIVI, Instead of rebuilding your box why not upgrade to a faster ratio of 12.5/2 1/2 turns lock-lock. Will be an upgrade from the stock box & make it feel more modern almost like rack & pinion. Tom T.
Tom, I'm going to PM you a few questions on the steering box later on after work that way I don't side track the OP's thread. Thanks, Bob
It's over in northwestern Ontario, last day these 3 will see the sun until spring. Ponds are freezing over and most leaves have dropped. Time to fly south
Whereabouts in Ontario are you at? I'm in Wasaga Beach and it's still nice and sunny here so far I've been driving my Riv every chance I can get before I put it away this weekend
I'm up near Thunder Bay, hardly even the same province we are so far away lol. Enjoy the nice weather, I'm in Winnipeg today and its blowing snowing and feels like middle of winter.
Oh wow that's up there for sure! Thsnk you and I will enjoy it while I can! Oh and keep that white stuff there for a bit would ya lol
Green car made it's pilgrimage to the barn this evening. We've still got a little time here, but I'm so busy and the weather is so sketchy that I don't know when else I'd be able to do it. It's odd though, I almost feel a sense of relief when I put that car away for the winter. Due to the new addition in the barn last week, white car is gonna stay in the front garage this winter. Downside is my truck now becomes an outside dog. Upside is I'll be able to drive Elsa a little longer before ODOT puts down the first treatment on the roads. Last idle of 2019.
Was almost 70 Friday, drove the Mustang for the "last time". Riv got put away a few weeks ago. Snowed yesterday and down to about 2 degrees overnight, but it's supposed to be around 50 this weekend and sunny so might get them back out....plus, you never know when a wild hair is going to come along and I gotta get a little fix in despite the white stuff being around....I mean, when they were new they did get driven year round, right?
