I want to do a tilt column in my 66 Special. I really don’t care about the key location in the dash and honestly prefer the keyed column from a later a-body car. I’m sure this has been done over and over but is there a particular column that will fit dimensionally pretty good under the dash? I can do my own double-d for the steering shaft if required but just want a column that I can get parts really easy for and fits decently in to the stock location. Thanks

    Sounds like a wiring nightmare.

The tilt columns can't be that rare. I've got one in my 66 Skylark, which was a low option car(non PS or PB, non a/c). I would think it would be a direct bolt in.

There are gobs of 64-66 tilts out there. Column shift, floor shift.

Hey, Thought I'd follow the conversation. I have a 70 which is suppose to have a non tilt with the floor shift. But at some point in time, the previous owner put in a tilt column with a column shift and removed the column handle. so it's all sorts of messed up. Need to swap something else as well.

I just prefer the later model tilt with the keyed-column. I can also retrofit a late column easier if I decide to keep the shifter there with a 4L60. Just more options it seems.
