New 430lph EFI pump ordered from Tanks INC. It should just drop right into the tank we scored awhile back. (71-72 Chevelle EFI tank)
So what's the plan turbo or supercharger? This unit would be NASTY on your setup, raise gasket thickness, Treadstone FM intercooler, and run 10's on just a few lbs. Boost would be pretty much instant, and would have room to grow if wanted https://www.precisionturbo.net/turbochargers/ls-series/details/LS-Series-PT-7675-Turbocharger-/653
Haydn isn't sure yet. See...if he goes turbo, he ditches his Doug's ceramic coated headers, and might have to chop up the rest if the new exhaust. Turbos are messy...need oil, and a drain added to the pan, etc. If he goes supercharger....he can still keep the exhaust and have the noisy whine of the belt and compressor...just gotta find the correct mounting plate. Oil system is self contained. No lag. Want boost earlier/later, change a pulley. Like I said...he hasn't made up his mind yet...who knows, maybe a set of the new aluminum heads will find their way to his engine bay...idk, and either does he...all I know is that he got bit really hard by the horsepower bug. Lol
Boost is linear with a blower there isn't as much power under the curve with the blower. But they are certainly capable,..I had a blast with my F1-C 94 on my car. They sound extremely nasty for sure. The bracket isn't "readily" avaliable, there are universal bracket blanks if your up to doing alot of fabrication. It's essentially just a redrilled SBC bracket, but Procharger bracket kits are expensive, IF you can convince Bob at the Supercharger store to sell you one. He generally doesn't sell just the brackets. Moral is without dropping 5k on a blower setup at once it will take some work to make it all work correctly and reliably. Hell I had the purpose built brackets for mine and i had to reengineer several things on it for better belt wrap and bracket stability. You can pick up D1 blowers pretty much any day of the week for $1200 to 1800 with low run time on LS forums Concerning "turbo lag" I assure you a 76mm T4 with a .96 A/R will light off instantly on 370cid you will be to busy trying to keep it pointed in the desired direction to worry about anything else. On the turbo drain, if you don't want to go to the pan, you can drain it into the fuel pump block off plate, if turbo was mounted on the driver's side of the bay. Just something to think about,.. here's my old setup,.. easily 900+ hp,.. strictly for promoting motivation ha
Haydn and I worked on his FiTech EFI installation for the last couple weeks when we had time. He just finished graduating as a Third Class Power Engineer....with honours! (Over a 3.5 gpa) He has also finished his first half of his Second Class Power Engineer studies, so now he has to put in his steam time, so he can write the last tests. (Not for awhile yet.) So life has happened....changes have happened... Haydn took an operating job at the Sherness Power Plant near Hanna, Alberta. (About an hour and a half drive from home) He moved out with a couple other friends, who also got jobs at the same plant, and now lives in Hanna. So between college classes, studying, working part time, and trying to still work on his car...we all know which one suffered the most. (His car) But today.....today Haydn finished the install, and got to fire it up all by himself. He sent me a video of it, and I was impressed how the car started without having to play with the gas peddle, lol. Just hit the key, and it fired right up. I will try to post it here. He texted me after he went for a rip, and said it had a bog, so he played with the pump setting, and cured that too! And.....no more noisey electric fuel pump! The in-tank pump is dead quiet!
Yes, thank you. We are very proud of him, for sure! He's had that FI system since last fall, early winter, and never had time to work on his car at all. To give everyone an idea of how busy I am myself...the transmission blew up in my truck last August...finally got it out this spring, got it back from the shop early April...and the truck is still on jacks, waiting for me to finish the final pieces of getting it together. And if that wasn't enough on my plate...I just bought another 2004 F350 King Ranch, which was a theft recovery....gonna drive it for awhile after I fix the common damage from thieves...
LOL, sounds like my GS, went to the Buick Bash, now its on jack stands AGAIN, waiting for me to drop the trans. to remove convertor for a restall
Time for another update. -Haydn purchased another Buick. It's a 1972 Buick Skylark, very nice. -After I did all the repairs to the F350 King Ranch, Haydn bought that from me...even before I had a chance to put more then a few miles on it. -Both cars are now in a heated storage warehouse for the winter. -His plan is to pull the engine out of the GS, and drop it in the Skylark. -As far as ordering aftermarket heads for the stroker, that's completely up to him...and he can think about it over the winter months. -I finally got the transmission into my truck....but it never left the garage all year. -I found another truck for myself...been wanting one for the last 30 years....ever since I sold my old one....a 1970 GMC 1/2 ton. -Once again...if I can figure out how to post pictures, I will.
