Derek, yes, I asked him to shift the car manually, and take it to 6000 rpm...and if he could feel that it was still pulling, go to 6500.
He said he did shift manually, but was not watching the tach at all. (This is where a shift light would come in handy.)
He also had the tires at 18 psi to start. He also marked them to see if the rim was spinning inside the tire, and the driver's side rim slipped about a 1/4" on the rim.

Understandable, the first half dozen times going down the QM was a white knuckle ride for me back in the day. Maybe setup his phone to record so the tach is visible in the video so he can go back and see what he is doing. And yes you're right, a shift light would help a lot especially if he gets into bracket racing.

Thanks for sharing, keep those updates coming!

I knew you could do it! 12.99 I did 13.31 so I knew you could do this since you had more rwhp than mine on the motor.

the 1.82 60 ft is good and got 82 in the 1/8 moving good. Nice Job! Drop that 60 ft and go 12.89

A 100 shot of nitrous is a easy 11.50 car

Well this guy got his thit going where are the rest of you bums at lol.

Alright....come across a FiTech EFI 1200 for sale for $950, shipped.

Haydn is undecided on running turbos or a supercharger.
Already told him his ceramic coated headers can not be used with the turbos...lots of piping to fab up....

Help us out....which is better way to go for his setup?
He can only run about 5 psi max...

Whats the compression again? But a blower is the easiest way no doubt. But it's expensive,..

You can do a 76mm remote mount turbo setup for around 4k and make all the shortblock can handle.
One of the new Precision "LS" 76's would be perfect, y-pipe off the headers the all footprint of that turbo would mount on either side where the the muffler would reside, the run the charge pipe backup front and and a sing 3.5in exhaust out the pass side. It would spool up plenty quick and can support 1k hp but with your decent NA power 5~8lbs would net you another 100+hp. I have a new Turbosmart 40mm wastegate and a new front mount intercooler I would let go of very reasonable. Normally I wouldn't say intercooler would be nessecery with such low boost, but with your what I believe is higher compression, I would cool charge with either meth injection or intercooler, just to be safe, and with both you could push boost up to 10lbs maybe 12 with the correct tune-up.

If he wants to do twins, two 60ish mm Turbonetics turbos with a .81 ar are similar would be a good comprise of boost speed and topend potential. They are $825 each but have a small footprint and would tuck up just fine where the muffs mount

If you get the FI now, nitrous would be fun until the wallet heals. The power adder FiTech I believe can do nitrous as well IIRC?

A 150 shot is a whole lot less expensive than a boost setup. But getting the bottle filled all the time would probably get old after a while? By then the wallet might have recovered?

    Plus nitrous likes higher compression!

Compression is 10.6:1 hence why I say he can only go as high as 4-5 psi of boost.
Plus, if he goes boosted, he would have to run racing fuel ALL THE TIME. (He thinks $1.50/litre is expensive...)

He likes the sound of that...

Problem is...he wanted the mean sound of the cam.....now he wants the sound of the belt whine, or the turbo singing...

Gawd I wish I knew where he got this "Horse Power Itch" from, lol

No need for race fuel, .060 gasket, and meth injection with 22° of timing and it would plenty safe up to 10lbs more if it was intercooled.

If you go with the new heads later on you could get up to 15lbs or so, and still keep some compression in it

    .....15 psi of boost.....
    Phuuuuuuuuuuuuk!
That would lift the front off the ground a little bit.

We talked at lunch about his car at the track. (With the drag radials.)
He said he was amazed at how the car slammed him into the seat on the launch, instead of spinning the tires.
He compared it to my compound turbo diesel when we do boosted launched in 4wd.
His food kept falling out of his mouth, because he was grinning so much.

    Good times!

If you have the AutoTec pistons, those are made from the 4032 forged aluminum alloy and not the best choice for a lot of boost.

    Here's what is written about the AutoTec pistons;

"AutoTec is a High Quality, Precision Manufactured piston option. That comes at a very respectable price. Our Design Specific Forging allows us to manufacture our parts with less machining time, thus allowing us to keep production cost down. Then pass that savings on to you, the customer. Made out of 4032 High Silicone Aluminum Alloy, it has great wear resistance, a low expansion rate, is very durable, and is very low in friction. These pistons accommodate multiple uses including. Your local auto shop, muscle car restorations, performance street rods, as well as many spec racing classes. They can also withstand mild nitrous kits and small turbo or super chargers. Just about everyone can benefit from the excellent value the AutoTec line carries. Keeping in mind these pistons were originally designed for about 600 Horsepower. In Small Block applications, we have customers that frequently fine tune engines that yield 850+ Horsepower with a bit of Super Charger boost. Bore, Ring Pack, and Compression Distance changes can be made to any shelf part at no extra charge. Meaning that if you do not see your application listed in the guide, we can make what you need without charging a custom price. Every part is made with same high quality machines and tools as our RaceTec line including diamond turned ring grooves, and skirts. Not to mention our parts are 100% made in the USA."

The 2618 aluminum alloy is more suited for tons of boost or loads of nitrous.

But, the sbb 350 responds very well to higher cylinder pressures, Bob Mackley's son's sbb 350/370 stroker naturally aspirated made 430 HP on the engine dyno and with only 6 PSi of boost was up to 630 HP!! A whopping 50% increase with only 6 psi! I'm guessing you should be right around 400 at the flywheel(not sure what kind of porting the heads have? if any?) so if the 50% rule holds true with your engine, you would be around 600 HP! I'll post a link to that thread when I get home.

If you have AutoTec pistons, they will probably handle 8 psi no problem but probably might want to not go much more than 10 PSI? You can try going more though, its either going to work or it ain't.;)

Look into E-85 we can find it easy around Edmonton and Calgary and it allow you to run high compression and boost without an intercooler... Plus its less $ than race fuel.

If corn is an option than by all means go for it, I ran e85 on my Procharged 464 and the 650hp NA setup that was it's predecessor. I simply bolted the blower on the 11.25 to 1 NA setup no meth or intercooler ran and 9lbs of boost. I never leaned on it at the track because it was a stock rod bottom end. But it would have been plenty safe.

A single s475 would be a gnarly setup, and you can even run the stock manifolds making the piping much less involved.

A 150 shot right now will make you go 10.99 600.00$ bucks. And I bet a 75 shot will make you go 11.90 all day long and no need for a roll cage. I went from 13.80 to 12.42 with the 75 shot the same day. That is with a 25 year old build.
You should be able to do the same easily and you will get a lot of runs with a 75 shot. nothin will beat you on the street with that set up.

Haydn went down to the border, and picked up his FiTech injection kit.
Everything seems to be there other than the bottom gasket, and maybe the air filter stud.
