Starter removal

    Hey everyone I'm in the middle of removing my stock 350 from my 71 skylark but I'm hung up on the starter I got two bolts out is there a third I can not see?

    Two bolts. Should come right out.

    Unless you still have the starter brace installed in the front of the starter. It braces the front of the starter to the block. It never gets put back on after the original starter is removed

    Yep still had that third bolt!!

    mine is a '72 & only 2 bolts. That starter is damn heavy. I made a small cradle from plywood to lower & install with the aid of a small hydraulic bottle jack.

    All starters originally had a small brace off the front of the starter that went to the block. Its in the service manual. No one ever put that brace back on after the original starter went bad.
