Can anyone recommend a good starter rebuilder? Looking for an old school shop that knows how to rebuild them properly. Thanks
If you're brave enough, they're very easy to do. Holding the brushes in while you install the armature is usually the toughest part, and it's just fiddly.
It's not a dying trade by any means. You'll have a local shop which is more than competent for the job.
I rebuild. I have been doing it professionally for 45 years. I retired but still do it at my home shop. I also know rebuilders across the country. I'm in Pittsburgh Pa. If thats too far, give a location and I may be able to recommend a local shop for you. I also do restorations on starters and alternators.
I have some cores. What are you after? What engine? Do you need a specific number or a rebuilt unit to fit?
This place down here in Taunton has been around over 30 years and a couple friends have used them with great results. I'll be bringing both my starter and alternator there very soon. http://tauntonautoelectric.com/
I don't know why people don't fill out their signature & stating where they are from.. Makes things SO MUCH easier for ALL involved if anyone answering posts they know where you are from & don't need to take up rather valuable/needy replies taking up band width for NO reason Just my thoughts.
I highly recommend Stellar. He had what I was looking for and rebuilt it. Looks great and works great. I always try to support forum members.
I can have it later this week. The least I can do is rebuilt starter + a core charge and shipping. I can try to keep it at $100.00 or less to you. You may want to consider a local parts store. Let me know
