Any advice for where to get parts to rebuild the starter in my '57 Special?

I saw a list list of items on Rock Auto and I'm not sure what items I need beyond the brushes, bushing, and solenoid.

    Thanks as always fellas!

Dz …. Your on the right track. Here is what I did with my 57 starter. Took it apart and then found a starter rebuild outfit to check out the entire components for very little like the armature, bendix etc. Ask around at trucking company garages in your area where they are sending out their units to be rebuilt. They do this because it is less expensive then obtaining a questionable rebuilt one from over seas or whatever. As you say one can obtain the brushes and even NOS armatures, bendix, solenoid etc however the rebuilders can machine true turn the armature and mica cut the slots as well as checking out magnetics and current flows. They can also help you on obtaining any parts. That is what I did and what we advise you to do as well. Good hunting and report back when you can...

Another option is one of my "Mini-Starters", but of course they will more than likely cost more than rebuilding your original.

But I love Tom's mini-starter in my Buchev pickup. I didn't need it for clearance - the big Nailhead fits much better then the 6.2 Diesel (getting at the spark plugs was impossible), but I hate excess weight. The starter has been in the truck for at least five years, probably longer. It works beautifully.
