Was looking at some old articles on the one factory built car and some dealer installed conversions. One of them said the complete conversion made 476 gross HP, but gave no torque number. With Buick understating the Stage 1, and times reported on the Stage 2 being high 11's, I wonder if the 476 HP was also understated. 11's would indicate more along the lines of 500+ HP. Anyone have any info or thoughts on the actual HP and torque?
There were two versions of stage 2. A street version which was 11.0:1 (476hp) and a race version which was 12.5:1(524hp+/-).
I have that at home, I'll post it this evening. I want to say 520+/- on the street motor and 560-575 on the race motor. I'll check when I get home and post it.
here's the scoop! horsepower 467@5500(street version) 507@5700(race version) torque 528@3800(street version) 539@4000(race version) compression 11:1(street) 12:1(race) pistons TRW forged carburetion Holley 850 mech. camshaft hydraulic lift 455 int 480 exh(street) .510int .523exh(race)* dur @ .050 225 int 255 exh(street) .244int 258exh(race) valves 2.12int 1.75exh exhaust 2 1/8" tube diam., 40"length primaries, 3.5"flange lobe sep 115(street) 113(race) *-later in the same article it states exhaust lift .534(race)
Hey there Jack, This mean your thinking of a set of heads for your monster. You may have a hard time keeping a set of aluminum heads from the wife. Are you going to the Woodlands Mall show on the 26th? Several of us will be there. Darryll with his super fine 70' GSX Tom Anderson with his 70' GS 455 Me and my terd The guy with the 65' skylark, forgot his name.. If you could go with your car It would be between you and Darryll for first place! Maybe the overall Winner. P.S. Putting my stageII back in the 69' GS. I have decided to paint it 72' Corvette stingray Yellow! Should look great with the black on black interior. email me at work. My machine is down. david.atkinson@ep-solutions.com
David, just sent you an email on the show. No, not thinking of new heads right now- too many other commitments. It was just me wondering since I couldn't find the whole story in the articles I found. Ann has a new way of combating my Buick spending- she goes out and spends an equal or greater amount onsomething she wants. That's not only unfair, it's really painful and it may be un-American!! Maybe, if I let her drive Buford- nah, better not! See ya!
