Great topic, hopefully this info will help to eliminate the potential for fraud. This confirms much of my research over the past 30 years. The two Stage 1 cars I currently own have distributors dated as follows.

    '70 Stage 1 GSX - 04C
    1112016 - 9 L 4
    square stem

    '70 Stage 1 - 03C
    1112016 - 9 L 4
    square stem

I have never seen a 2016 distributor dated between 9 L 4 and 0 F 23. Below are date codes from other 1970 Stage 1 cars that I have owned in the past.

    1112016 - 9 G 15
    1112016 - 9 K 3

This seems consistant with the dates shown throughout this thread, and seems to confirm as I suspected, that they were built in batches.

    The Stage 1 carbs seem to follow suit, and were also built in batches. (More batches?). The known original carbs that I have actually owned through the years are;

    7040246 - 2189 - (8/06/1969)
    7040246 - 2399 - (8/27/1969)
    7040246 - 3239 - (11/19/1969)
    7040246 - 0150 - (1/15/1970)
    7040246 - 0720 - (3/13/1970)

Anyone else have known originals with other dates?

I mention the carbs because of Brad's statement about Buick rotating their stock. My March 1970 car originally had a 246 carb dated 2399, MUCH earlier than the assembly date of the car. ???

    Hi Dave,

The 09D car....is this from the Reynolds car?
The "016" dist I got with the car (in the trunk) I had thought would have been the original?
I better check the date code!

    Thanks,
    Guy

I had what I thought was an original distributor in my 70 Stage 1, but it looks like someone before us replaced it. I asked my uncle, who was the second owner and my dad who was the third, and they both said that they didn't change the distributor. But as someone said, my uncle had it back in the ealry 70's when things were "groovy". :bglasses:

The numbers on my distributor are 1111260 with a date code of 6H26.

Can anyone verify what year my ditributor came out of? I have no idea how to break these codes down.

    I beleive it's for a '67 400 or 430. The date code is August 26, 1966.

    Thanks Donny!!

Would having that distributor in there decrease the performace of the car at all?

The only reason that I ask is because when I bought car from my parents, it ran good, but just wasn't what I was expecting. It ran good and was fast (but then again, I drive a PT Cruiser, so a jogger is fast to me), but it just didn't have the "umph" that I thought that it would. When I pulled the motor, the exhaust system was horrible, it had crappy bends and was only about an inch in diameter at some places. The carb needed rebuilt, the distributor is wrong, some of the vacume lines were on wrong, and it had some chincy plug wires.

I'm taking care of all of these issues, along with getting the T/A 290-94H cam, and I've already had the heads milled to get back to a 9.5:1 CR and had them ported. I also bought a 800 CFM QJ from a '71 455 that I'm going to have totally redone.

Hopefully, this will help to get the car to the level of all the stories that I've heard about how they should run. :3gears:

    Chris,

Do you know the history on the left pic that is dated 1M10? That is the first one I've seen dated later than the 0F23, and was wondering if it is a service replacement that was stamped Dec.10, 1981 vs. 1971? I'm not sure about the 0E8 coded one on the right since that date has not shown up either. Thanks for posting the pics.

To all that have posted information about your distributor,

I'm sorry I have not updated the original post showing all the recent data. I could never figure out a way to keep it current without getting confused by going back and forth from each page of this thread while editing the original post.

Can someone who is smarter than me with computers make an Excel spreadsheet that I can put this data in and then email it to me so I can easily update the last post without having to edit the first one so we don't have to keep going back to the first page? Should be simple with columns for name, year of car, date code, stem type, and comments. winoman@sbcglobal.net is my email address.

    Thanks.

Those look like re-stamps to me. Notice the last "1" in the 1112016 number has legs on it. The first three "1's" do not. They should all be legless in the part number but date code 1's had legs as it should be. Anyone else notice this?

Must have used different number jigs I guess. Most I have seen have same 1 style

Since that dist. has a very early build date it would stand to reason was stamped by different machine or number wore out and changed.

For those with 0F23 date code distributors, is it stamped "lll2016" or "lll20l6"? the difference being the font of the "1" before the 6. It's a little hard to tell, but the pictures above look like "l" as opposed to the earlier distributors that look like "1".

I never was able to keep up with this info.

If anyone wants to make an Excel spreadsheet or table in Word to help track the dates, let me know. I don't have the ability to make one, and it's too hard to update the info in this format.
