    Hi All,
Been busy at a new job lately but getting close to firing up my rebuilt 66 401.

In the process of getting here, I have come across the opportunity to get sets of exhaust bolt keepers in 20 ga 304 Stainless Steel. They might be available for $25/set including shipping if enough can get ordered at once. Here is a picture of the samples.

I basically took one of my stock ones, had it laser scanned, then made a 2nd version that was stretched a 1/2" for use where the manifold casting is thick and thin. Is there enough interest to move forward on these?
Send me a PM if interested!
    Thanx.

That's cool! My car has headers, therefore I'm not likely needing them soon. You might reconsider that offer of $25.00 shipped if there's overseas interest. Canada would also cost a bit more too. I'm sure you meant within the lower 48 states though. :beer

I will post a link to this thread on the 65gs site to help generate more interest. :TU:

Anytime Loren. :TU: Anything to help spread the word, as I'm certain some members there don't access V8 all that frequently.

Not sure whats offered elsewhere but 304 SS material is much more expensive than mild steel originals.
    Thanx for your reply!

Those locking plates were phased out around January 1966. A bolt/lockwasher was used from then on.

I would be interested in a set for my '65!

I find that interesting. A lockwasher is basically a spring. I would think that the repeated heat/cool cycles would take the temper out of the metal. Or are the lockwashers something different then a conventional split washer?

Walt, did they use the same bolt for 66 with the lock washer. The bolts from this engine have a small washer on them. Do you know if 65 and 66 GS used all the same length bolt? thanks Bill.

My understanding is: Heating and cooling metal like these manifold bolts and lockwashers go through, is commonly called annealing. It is known to remove the temper, or springback, of most metals. Odds are if you remove your lockwashers after any significant amount of usage, they will be flat. The lock washer and french locks have been around a long time, but the french lock was always considered a more positive mechanical lock to prevent bolts walking out due to the heating and cooling cycle.

I just like the way they look, and ya can't beat SS! Should know the costs soon!

I wouldn't mind having some either. Walt is right about the change over time. The washers were then the type used with the 'improved' (?) 400-430

OK, looks like enough interest to get at least 10 sets. Will place the order this week.
Do you guys think it would be worth putting an ad on Ebay for $30/set delivered to the lower 48 states?
V8Buick members would still get the same package at the $25 price till the ten sets are gone.
    Wish me Luck!

When you say sets do you mean 8 pieces per set??? How about the single locks for the longer bolts??? The ones with the longer bolts will take four (4) of the singles so only six (6) doubles will be needed. If this is a GO I will take four (4) sets of eight (8).
