I'm looking to try to figure out a way to run an SPX intake with a one inch spacer with a stock hood , so I'm looking for any ideas on how to make an air cleaner work . Who's done it and how did you do it ?

    Shim your hood to hinges.
Remove under hood center bracing by carb.

What ever you come up with is going to negate the gain of the SPX manifold or any single plane manifold. They need space above the blades to work as intended.

Your only option is a screen hat or Moroso drop base but you'll have basically no room from the lid to base,..no good

    Hugger is right.

I’ve got a Wildcat intake (predecessor to SPX) and dominator carb but with no spacer. My car now has a hole in the hood and a scoop. Ugly but functional.

yeah I hear ya I'm just looking for something to run on the street, when I take it to the track ill take off the air cleaner . Running it without the spacer is still an option I just feel it will perform better with it ..

I would do this b4 a pancake filter just me

Sandwich some screen in the outlets and run hose under the bumper with the w30 repro scoops

Oh man. I don’t think I could do that hugger.
    Kinda fugly to me.
Is there a way to fit that manifold and carb under the stock hood? With an air cleaner? Say sans the spacer.

I'd paint it black,..but I agree wouldn't be my first choice,...but would probably work pretty well even with the limited volume

400777A2-B10F-4558-8D6D-C0D28EC8240F.jpeg You need at least 1.25” from the highest object on the carb,to the underside of the air cleaner. If you have a choke horn, this is a critical limit.
    I use a 70’s Corvette drop base.
Do you have a GS hood or a flat hood?

Looks to be for a Holley seeing float bowl and center needle and seat indents.

Yes. There is a similar one for a Q-jet,but I think this will work too. I can check.

That will NOT work w/ a Q-Jet. Only Holley. Fuel line hits, prob w/ choke, as well, as I recall.

I think the one that is running with a Q-jet was massaged or modified to fit the Q-jet. Not a direct fit out of the box.

Not an easy mod, tho anything's possible! I tried and gave up but wouldn't been too bad if I hadn't wanted to run stock fuel line. Seems I recall that was the biggest prob.

Possibly a Chevy Q-jet with the 90 inlet.
