On say a block with nice thick lifter bores , what's the safe spring limit for a solid roller without a girdle or epoxy? And roughly how much spring is needed for a 270/280ish 700+ lift roller? I know there isn't a concrete answer, but just what's been done and fir how long etc

Rule of thumb.. 100psi of spring pressure for ever .100 lift.

Lots of variables, check with your cam grinder on your particular profile, and the use of lightweight valve train components will also affect the actual required spring pressure.

Most cams like your talking about would be set up with 7-800 psi on the nose.

Remember you will lose roughly 10% of your spring pressure, once your new springs go into service.

I just did a .580 inch solid roller, with 263/274 duration at .050 and had good sucess with the springs at 625psi on the nose. 11/32 valves and Titanium retainers.

Iron block, old-school Crane 8620 roller core, lifter bore girdle.

If you decide to go with a lifter girdle let me know. May have one available.
