Do any of you Buick experts out there know the difference between a sport wagon and a sport wagon custom? I'm guessing maybe interior is different. I'm looking at a 1967. Looks like product of the custom two seat was 3114 in the book "Buick The Complete History" , but in another chapter reads that the custom was dropped in 1967.
I am looking at a 67 Buick Special/Special Deluxe/ and Sportwagon new car order form for 67. All Sportwagons had the same interior (except color) and the choice of 2 or 3 seat variation. The order form calls the Sportwagons- Custom Sportwagon - the 2 seat was 44455 the 3 seat 44465. The Color and trim manual Also refer to them as Custom Sportwagon as does the Sellers manual - they also use the term Sportwagon and leave off the Custom but with no ryme or reason. That said all 67 Sportwagons have the same interior. Now you could get the Sportwagon 400 option which would have a 400 on the rear quarter panel and have the 340/4 and the Super Turbine 3 Speed auto tranny And of course you could get with or without woodgrain So, no there was not a specific "Custom" option Hope that helps and didn't confuse you more.
After a little research on a newly discovered website, "Classic Car database" I think that the only difference was the woodgrain trim outside the car. The custom was the woodgrain option.
Keith, thats very interesting about the 400 option. Do you have anymore detailed info on that option. What does the quarter panel trim look like? Is it below the sport wagon logo?
The 400 emblem is below the quarter panel trim. My 68 is a 400 so I can take a picture of the emblem if you would like.
spw1967, Here is the 67 Sportwagon 400 trim on my Platinum mist two seater - it is red opposed to the black badge you see on most 400 models of Buick.
I have a couple of NOS "400" emblems for the 67 wagons, which I think they were used on the Lesabres also which had the 340 engine and 400 turbo trans. Mike
Further searching and digging shows that the Woodgrain wagons are considerd customs. Non of the ordering info or books show this as a different model # but the breakdown in production does list a different model # 4455 4 dr w/2 seats Production 5,440 4465 4 dr w/3 seats Production 5,970 4855 4 dr w/2 seats sts w/woodgrain Production 3,114 4865 4 dr w/3 seats sts w/woodgrain Production 4,559 The woodgrain was option # V5 It's odd how they gave them a different model number when it was just an option on the order form
