If this dude or somebody elese that uses them would repsond it would help. I've tried them on newer cars and no positive results but faster starting:error:

I'm pretty cheap. $50 for faster starting isn't very conclusive to me.

Reading through this post reminds me of a couple of paragraphs from the "Tuning Your Engine" section of the Motor Trend Basic Auto Repair Manual No. 4, that I bought in 1972 when i had my 1968 GTO (gotta give credit where the credit is due):

"The best thing you can do to your engine is experiment. Have you ever run .020-in. plug gaps? If you haven't, how do you know it isn't a good thing to do? Have you ever tried bigger jets or smaller jets? How about spark advance or initial timing? The only difference between you and Ed Pink is that Pink has tried everything in the world. He knows what will give more horsepower and what won't, so he sticks with the things that will.

In addition to experimenting, you must keep records. Write down everything you do to your car. Every change should be recorded, including the results of the change. Slowly, you will eliminate the wrong guesses, and your car will start performing better. Most tuners work around the clock, constantly searching for perfection. And they have the satisfaction of knowing they have made their car run well."

I drove and tuned that GTO in the days long before the internet, and now we have the benefit of seeing other people's experience at the touch of a few keys. That's good stuff, and will save time and frustration, but you don't have to take somebody else's word of advice, you will only know what works on your car when you experiment.

Great post, and to add to that.... Do not make too many changes at a time, change one variable at a time.

Yeah it gave the car faster starting just like if you were to put a high performance ignition coil on and it ran 4 and 6 cylinder engines very lean... to the point that the check engine light came on. The miss firing was noticeable on v6 and the v8 engines. One the v8 5.2. The plugs only lasted 1 month before the missfiring began, and when I change back to the factory spec champion brand I was suprised they gave me more consistan power w/o missfiring. If the plugs were made spec for every car and not universal they may be great. The design is great but universal app not.:Smarty:

I know that this is a older thread, but I wanted to know about the E3 spark plugs. I installed E3.42 in my buick 350 today and no matter what I did my engine keeps misfiring out of a newly rebuilt quadrajet Carb. Can kinda get it to run better at idle but unload or in drive it backfires out of the carb and dies. Ive heard good and bad things about these plugs but I dont think theyre for me. I have a hei distributor and car ran good before i switched the plugs out oh and I did tune and re time the carb and motor but still not running righg. Any help I would appreciate as I'm lost righy now thansk

Its more money to spend, but start with ACR45TSX. Those are the ac Delco plugs used in hei Buick 350s. I ran them at .060 on both my HEI 350s, no issues. Start at square one, factory stuff.

Ok before yhe e3.42 yesterday I had AC r45TSX gapped @ .60 sluggish start up but ran ok when warmed up with a slight miss so im not sure if it the .60 that my car seems to not like, because when i bought the car it had plugs (AC) with a .45 gap in it but i can't find the darn plug to try and go back to it

Stock AC plug for a 77 Regal 350 is R45TS,

I would run the .045 gap. Really no need to run a bigger gap and tax the ignition system. You could likely get away with the .060 gap, but not necessary IMHO. I run a .045 gap on NGK FR-5 plugs in my engine. Same plug as the UR-5 except flat seat for aluminum heads. The UR-5 is one step colder. For the stock 77 350, I'd stay with the UR-4.

That 2nd rock auto link also lists the r45tsx as a replacement plug as well...

Yes it does for those who want a .060" gap. Same plug as the 45TS, longer ground electrode for the larger gap.

I set mine at .025 on the dragster. no issues, ever. if you ever talk to a spark plug rep, they will tell you about .035 if your racing.

Never missed a note. 6,200 most of the time. I may try less gap just because you guys are saying to.:D Seem like they burned clean to me... at .060 gap the center electrode is nice and square to the strap. You can almost weld with the spark the MSD puts out. 20190221_210033.jpg

Lets see the top of the "J" strap

it shoots that .060 gap because the MSD will shoot lightning bolts for about 1 inch.

    Interesting Mart, everybody says .045.
On my GN I run .032, at .060 it idles smoother, but the spark gets blown out under boost.
Ima try .060 on my GS:cool:
